The A9 is the main arterial road running from North to South
(Or vice versa, depending
on where you are and your proposed destination!) The image depicts the
heather slopes
as they appear in August/September when the heather is in full bloom, although
in reality,
the scene has a greater natural beauty than the image illustrates.
The railway line, which parallels, or tries to parallel, the road at this
point, can be seen in
the top left quadrant. Where it disappears over the hill is Slochd
Summit, the highest
point on the route and from whence the line descends to Inverness.
