No smoking!
Inverness airport...Ten minutes!
The suspension
bridge spans the narrowest point between
Inverness and the Black Isle...Which
is not an island but a
peninsula! There are various stories
as to how it came to be thus
named, the most plausible of which
is that the snow melts quickly
due to the proximity of the salt
sea air, by which it is surrounded.
To all intents and purposes, the bridge can be regarded as the
division between the Beauly Firth, which opens up to the left of
the picture, and the Inverness
Firth to the right, which opens
into the Moray Firth. Confused?...Me
too!...And I live here!
The Great Glen was created by volcanic activity which I can't
remember! And so the bridge
is 'spring-loaded'and purported to
be earthquake proof! Time will
tell, but no need to hold your
breath whilst you wait!
Loch Ness lies about one mile upriver from the road bridge in
the lower foreground, which carries the main A96 West-East
road traffic, and so the river Ness travels only a short distance
before spilling into the sea.
