Mahler synphony No. 9

At the 1'st movement, after the prologue,

La- Do- - - La- Do- Mi- So. So- - -
(Fa, Do, So = #)

This strange melody by violin and the anti-melody by something like cello don't look like having neither a harmony or lythm superficially. But actually they do in a special way, strangely. This extreme complexity would be surpassed by only one music as far as I know.

Once upon a time, an orchestra held a concert in front of a prestigious person in China. After the concert, this person said "The music was very beautiful. Above all, the music which impressed me most was the shortest one which has been played at the biggining."

Actually, it was tuning. This episode made me laugh. But, I should agree with him.

Tuning starts making a sound of A (=La). After that, strings move to 5 degree lower, and various wind instruments make different sounds. Some time, someone play a fragment of some melody. Everyone do this by their own way. But there is some kind of coordination and hermony. Tuning starts in a small single sound and become louder and more complex. After the vague climax, gradually diminished and disappeared. The unreplicable music of etarnal complexity.
