The Mastino
Napolitano is native to Italy. The bred heritage can be traced to the roman
molossus dogs that Alexander the great brought into Rome around 300 B.C.
All existing mastiff in Europe are of great antiquity, possibly tracing
their ancestry to the Tibetan mastiff.

Key Characteristics:

The powerful,
extremely large neapolitan mastiff has a big, broad head; very loose skin
forming innumerable dewlaps; thick, pendulous lips; deep set round eyes;
and ears that are usually cropped to a triangular shape to stand erect.
Its short, thick, shiny coat can be black, gray, tawny, mahogany with brindling
and white markings permitted only as a tiny chest star or paws spots.
Reliable and loving, this dog fearlessly attacks only on command.

Care and
Exercise:

The Neapolitan
Mastiff only needs simple grooming that consist of an occasional whole
body bath, massage with a towel and brushing every few days. The mouth
should be periodically wiped clean with a towel. Vigorous daily out door
excursus should include a pulling routine.
