Archie Bell & the Drells
Formed originally in the 1950's, there have been several Archie Bells over the
years, a noteable occasion when the real Mr. Bell was away in Vietnam while his
1960's dance classic "Tighten up" was number 1 in the US charts.
Disco fans listen to the early soulful disco hit "Here we go
again", (a big dancefloor hit in the UK too). "The Soul City
Walk" is one of the great disco tracks of all time and the long mix is
provided on the original US 12" (above). "Let's groove"
was the follow up disco hit and the bouncing bassline made sure that it would be
hot in discos around the world for many months (it was soon covered by the Player's
Association. Also listen for the high-bpm "Everybody have a good
time" (available on UK-only 12"). "Disco showdown" is a
remix of their early 1970's soul-dance hit "Showdown".
