Instant Funk
Talking of Salsoul... Instant Funk started out on the Philadelphia based TSOP
label (it's Bunny
Sigler's band) and produced the disco-funk classic "It ain't reggae
(but it's funky)", complete with synthesized deep wah-wah and all. From
this album we also like the title track (also released as a promo-only
12"). Moving onto the Salsoul label was a good idea - "Got my mind
made up" is a Salsoul disco classic and filled dancefloors for years
afterwards. The US 12" was mixed by Larry Levan and the white-label DJ copy
includes another Levan mix unreleased to the public.
Later disco hits include the more funk-orientated "Slap slap" and
"Bodyshine" (a Tee Scott mix). The UK 12" of "Got my mind
made up" was not mixed by Larry Levan and is the same as the LP version.
