Jackson 5

Little sweetie Michael Jackson sang the lead in this teeny-bopper group who first recorded for Motown in 1968. "I want you back" was their first number one hit - it sounds strangely like the disco music of the decade to follow...

Follow up dance hits included "ABC" and "Looking through the windows". Mid-1970's recordings became more funky and less bubblegum pop. "We're almost there" is a prime example of the soul-disco-funk sound around this time. But by far the greatest disco classic by the Jackson 5 was "Dancing machine". Just listen to it - it's great... an all-time disco classic. (Note - this song was never released in the UK; yet it was a US #1. Why?)

The Jackson 5 left Motown, and Jermaine Jackson, in 1976, to record for Epic records. Motown also kept the copyright to the name "Jackson 5" and so the group continued recording as "The Jacksons".
