Chapter Seven Notes
Ananda: "...the sound of silence..." ;)
Laurel: Apologies once again for the extreme melodrama, especially chapter's beginning. This is still in the ninth-grade region, so I hadn't yet mastered the concept of mood. Yeah, here's where Applebus-Bryan begins to deviate from the real one. To clear up any confusion, by the way, Daphne freaks out at the noise in the window (the loud groan and loud clang) because Bryan has aroused a cell guard's anger by yelling out the window. The moan is him getting whapped pretty much unconscious (though only temporarily, as the next chapter brings his first in-cell words) by some sort of blow (be it by fist or implement), the metallic clang is the guard exiting the cell and slamming the door behind him. I know that was never very clear. And I realize that if Bryan's unconscious, no amount of yelling or harmonica of Daphne's is going to be audible to him--in her frenzy, she doesn't think of that.
