Terry Pratchett's Discoworld

A friend of mine, Tegan, told me while reading a Discworld novel that Terry Pratchett is the Master.  I agreed with her. Pratchett is an expert satirist and parodies the real world superbly.

The Discworld, so named because of it's shape - a disc riding on the back of four elephants which in turn travel on the back of a giant turtle named A'Tuin.  is the home of many memorable characters; wizards, witches and a Grim Reaper who rides a horse called Binky.

Some well known Discworld characters include:

 Rincewind

an inept "wizzard" who runs from danger and nevers stands and fights.

 Ridcully Munstrum

the Arch-Chancellor of Unseen University, with a sense of curiosity that is going to get him killed one day.

 The Librarian

the Librarian of Unseen University who has been turned into an orag-utan. He likes bananas and says, "Ook."

 Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax

the two Witches of the Kingdom of Lancre.

 Death

carries a scythe, rides a horse called Binky and always talks in CAPITAL LETTERS.

There are over 25 Discworld novels so far, not to mention the companion books that go with them, comic books, and  audios read by Tony Robinson.

Most of the action takes place in either the capital city of Ankh-Morpork or the Kingdom of Lancre. Other settings that appear include the House of Death, the Counterweight Continent and XXXX.

If you're looking for a good laugh, I recommend you pick up a Discworld novel. You are bound to enjoy it!
