Fellowship of Reconciliation
In this time of national tragedy, we look with compassion to the victims-the dead, the wounded, and their loved ones. We mourn as members of the world community of which all humanity is a part.
We are stunned to find ourselves in the position of so many in the world who live in fear of senseless, never-ending violence. Thos who committed these crimes should be brought to justice through legal means and accepted standards of international law.
We oppose collective punishment of any people or nation. Justice and peace are realized only through just and peaceful means. Means and ends are inter-related.
Will we compound this tragedy by taking out our anger on others? Or can we use this as a moment of truth? Will we now examine U.S. policies that rely on military power and weaponry rather than excelling in the skills of peacemaking and the building of civil society? Will we seek to overcome evil with good?
This is not a time for panic, suspicion, and hate. It is a time to draw upon the deep resources of faith and to examine our lives in the light of the oneness of the human family.
