Obey Your Parents |
Obey your Parents
Yeah, I know, most people cringe on this topic, but you knew it would come sooner or later. Again and again your parents tell you what to do. It may get very tiresome and sometimes it feels like a good idea not to do what they say. So it's ok not to obey them, right? No, the Bible says to obey your parents or authourity.
Ephesians 6:1-3,
Children obey your parents in the lord for this is right.
"Honor your father and mother" which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.
The first time I read this, I was like saying, "I'm not a child so I don't have to right?" Nope, your parents are your authority, so you have to obey them. When you obey your parents you get something from it. You'll have a long life and not just a life where you're old, you have tubes in you, and you're living in a shack. You'll live a healthy, prosperous life.
"What happens if my parents tell me to do something that I know is wrong. Like to steal something?" That's why God put the phrase "In the Lord". You don't have to obey them if they are telling you stuff like that, but that doesn't give you the excuse to blow them off either. Be respectful.
Hebrews 13:7,
Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive. For they watch over your soul, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, For that would be unprofitable for you.
Your parents and other authority in your life are not there just to boss you around. They watch over you and see that you don't go the wrong way in life. Sometimes their rules may seem weird or even stupid, but they have it there for a reason. It isn't profitable, as the Bible says, to disobey them, but it is very profitable to obey them. Next time when your parents tell you something to do and you don't want to do it, think twice.
