Angels
Part 11- Not of This Earth
by Ruth

2:14pm
Friday, October 5th
Angel's apartment

Lewis dropped the last box of his things on the floor in the livingroom.
"That's it," he said to Oswald. "Last one." Oswald looked at his friend with
a mixture of joy and sadness.
"I'm happy for you but I'm really gonna miss you, Buddy," he said. Lewis
smiled at his friend and then threw his arms around him in a big hug.
"I'll miss you too," he said. "We've had some great times living together.
But you get me for one more night!"
"Hey, yeah! We can sit up and talk and drink all night!" Oswald said
excitedly.
"Oswald," began Lewis, "I'm getting married tomorrow. I should probably be
wide awake and not hung over for it."
"Oh, yeah," Oswald said as his excitement deflated. "Well, it'll still be nice
to have you around one more time." Lewis smiled.
"Thanks, Buddy," he said. "Now let's go before Angel gets back. We
decided not to see eachother from now until the wedding!"
"Isn't it only bad luck to see eachother the day of the wedding?" asked
Oswald.
Lewis shrugged. "Yeah, but if we see eachother today I'll just end up not
leaving and next thing you know it'll be morning..."
"Oh," began Oswald, "afraid you won't be able to resist a little action the
night before the big day!"
"Something like that. It's why we had the rehearsal last night." said Lewis.
As Lewis and Oswald turned to go out the door they heard someone coming
in. Lewis and Oswald froze in place for a moment before springing into action.
Or lack there of. They ran around in circles trying to figure out what to do.
Finally, Oswald had an idea.
"Lewis, get behind the door! I'll take care of this!" Lewis just nodded and
did as Oswald suggested. The door opened and before they could do anything,
Oswald had grabbed the person coming in, spun them around and clammped
his hand over her eyes. "Don't move!" he yelled. The woman in his grasp
began screaming. She drove her elbow into his gut, losening his grip, and
then turned around to take a swing at him. She froze in mid action.
     "OSWALD?!" she yelled.
"Kate?!" Oswald said through clenched teeth. "What the hell are you
doing?"
"Jesus, Oswald, you scared the crap out of me!" Kate said. Lewis came
out from behind the door and stood behind Kate.
"We thought you were Angel," he said. Kate jumped, startled, and put her
fist up again, threatening Lewis. Lewis jerked back away from her and threw
up his arms in a defensive posture. Kate stopped again when she saw it was
Lewis.
"What is wrong with you two?!" she said, clearly aggitated.
"Sorry!" said Lewis. "We were afraid you were Angel!"
Kate's eyes grew wide. "That's how you intended to greet your future wife?!
By scaring her half to death?!" Kate looked over at Oswald who was groaning
on the couch. "Oh, you big baby! I barely touched you!"
"'Barely'?! It felt like a truck hit me!" Oswald said with a grimace. He rubbed
at his stomach. Kate rolled her eyes.
"Anyway...I came up here to check if you'd gone yet," said Kate." "You
had nothing to worry about."
"Well, how was *I* supposed to know that?" asked Lewis. Kate sighed.
"Because she was with me," she said as if pointing out the obvious.
"Now go. I'm sure she'd like to relax this evening. Big day for her tomorrow."
Oswald had gotten up from the couch and was standing next to Lewis. Lewis
looked at him.
"Apparently it's not that big a day for me," Lewis said sarcastically.
"Just go!" Kate said as she pushed them out the door.
"All right, all right!" complained Oswald. "God, you're pushy!"
     "Go!"
Lewis sneered at Kate and walked to the door. At that moment, Angel
appeared.
"Kate? What's taking so long? Are they-" Angel, stopped mid-sentence.
She and Lewis stared at eachother for a moment and then screamed at the
same time. Lewis ducked back behind the door and Oswald grabbed Angel
and covered her eyes.
"Get out, get out!" yelled Kate to Lewis.
Lewis scrammbled from behind the door and ran out, all the while yelling,
"I wasn't here! I wasn't here!" Once Lewis was out of sight, Oswald uncovered
Angel's eyes. She stared at him, bewildered, as he waved and ran out the door
himself. Kate sat on the couch and put her face in her hands.
"Sorry, Angel," Kate said into her hands. Angel flopped down on the couch
next to Kate.
"That's OK," she said, placing her hand on her friend's shoulder. "I should
have waited outside until you came back like you told me too." Angel looked
around at the boxes in the livingroom. "Is this it?" she asked.
Kate took her hands from her face and looked around as well. There were a
total of ten boxes. "Lewis didn't really own that much," she said. "I'm actually
surprised there are that many boxes."
"They're probably mostly his books," Angel said. Kate raised her eyebrows
questioningly.
"Books?" she asked, obviously confused by the statement. Angel suddenly
realized her mistake. No one knew about that side of Lewis.
"Uh - nothing. I guess I meant porn magazines," Angel said, trying to cover.
Kate narrowed her eyes at Angel and stood up. Angel's faced remained the
picture of innocence.
"Lewis doesn't own that many nudie magazines," Kate said. "And he's done
some stupid things in his life but I doubt he'd bring those things here." Kate went
to the boxes and opened it up before Angel could stop her.
"Kate, wait-" Angel said too late. Kate peered into the box.
"Books!" she exclaimed. She opened another box. "More books!" Kate
knelt down and started going through the box. "All books!" She looked at
Angel who sat on the couch looking sheepish. "Lewis reads?!" Angel just
nodded. "Wow...who'd a-thought?"
"Don't let on that you know, OK?" Angel pleaded. "He keeps that part of
himself hidden for some reason. I don't know why, but that's just the way he
wants it."
"OK," said Kate. "I won't say anything."
     "Promise!" demanded Angel.
"All right, I promise!" Kate said, smiling. Angel sighed in relief and nestled
back in the couch. She looked at the clock and grinned.
"Hey, this time tomorrow I'll be about to say my vows," Angel said softly.
Kate looked at the clock as well.
     "Are you nervous?" she asked.
"A little," replied Angel. Kate sat back on the couch and turned on the TV.
"Well, let's keep you distracted until tomorrow morning, shall we?" Kate said
as she produced some DVDs...all porn. Angel laughed and shook her head.
"Are you sure that's something I should be watching the day before my
wedding?" Angel said, giggling. "What if I change my mind after seeing some
of those guys?"
"I picked ones where the guys are just mediocre," Kate said matter-of-factly.
"And I know damn well you're not going to change your mind!" Angel smiled and
gestured toward the DVD player.
"All right, play away," she said. "What's the first one called?"
     Kate grinned evily. "'Route 69!'"
Angel rolled her eyes and smiled. "Great..."

Saturday, October 6th
approx. 24 hours later

The day was beautiful, sunny and warm for the time of year. The wedding
guests were taking their seats. The wedding was taking place outside in a
park-like setting next to the place the reception was being held. A stream ran
nearby and the area was surrounded by trees and bushes. The bridesmaids
and the bride would approach, unseen, behind some of the bushes. The final
guests had been seated and Lewis, Oswald and Drew took their places up front
by the minister. Karen had come with Oswald and she smiled proudly as she
saw the three men in the tuxes she had "created".
"How are ya doin'?" Drew whispered to Lewis with a smile.
"I feel like I'm about to soil my trousers," Lewis joked. Drew and Oswald
chuckled softly. Each of the men wore boutonnieres of orchids, Lewis' white,
the others a soft shade of purple. They offset the women's bouquets. Angel's
bouquet was dripping with lillies, orchids and other delicate flowers, all white.
Kate and Briana held smaller versions of the same bouquet but with soft shades
of purple mixed in. They hid behind the bushes, waiting for the music to
cue them. Angel stood nervously at the end of the line with her father.
"You look beautiful," Keith whispered to his daughter.
"Thank you," Angel said and gave him a peck on the cheek. "I'm glad
they had the tux out by you," she added. "You look quite handsome in it!"
Keith chuckled. "Thanks, Honey," he said.
"Your Mom just sat down!" Kate whispered loudly. It was the cue to begin
the music. As it started, Angel swallowed hard.
"Here we go!" Briana turned and said to her. Angel smiled and squeezed
her father's hand.
     "I'm ready," she said.
Kate turned back one last time and threw a huge grin at Angel before moving
out to the aisle. All the guests smiled at Kate as she walked down the aisle.
She looked radiant. She winked at the guys as she took her place up front.
Briana walked out next. She had that stunning glow only a pregnant woman
could have. Drew became weak-kneed at the sight of her. He put a hand on
Oswald's shoulder to steady himself.
"Easy, cowboy," Oswald whispered to Drew. Briana smiled seductively at
Drew causing him to shudder. Lewis and Oswald snickered quietly.
The music suddenly changed and everyone stood up. Keith and Angel
moved out from the bushes and stood at the head of the aisle for a moment.
Lewis froze as he stared at his bride. He'd never seen her more beautiful than
at that very moment.
     "Oh, God..." he said quietly.
"You're a lucky man," Oswald whispered to him. Lewis nodded. Emotion
was threatening to overwhelm him and he fought back tears.
Angel, in the meantime, was just as dumbstruck. She had already seen him
in that tux but it seemed completely different now. Maybe it was the setting or
the way she was feeling or the look of pure love on Lewis' face. Or all of the above.
Angel let a few tears escape and trickle down her cheeks as her father led her
toward the love of her life. They stopped in front of the minister and Keith put
her hand in Lewis'. He kissed his daughter and sat down. Lewis and Angel
never took their eyes off eachother through the entire ceremony. It was like
there was no one else in the world but the two of them. Finally, the minister said
the words Lewis had been waiting for.
"Lewis, you may now kiss your bride!" Lewis smiled and bent down to kiss
Angel. A million emotions passed between them in that one kiss and it began
to look like they weren't going to stop!
"Someone better go get the hose," Kate said quietly.
As the seconds passed and there was still no sign of the kiss breaking up
anytime soon people started to shift around in their chairs, looking around and
not knowing what to do.
"So how 'bout those Browns!" Drew finally yelled. Lewis and Angel were
startled out of their kiss and looked up at everyone. They both smiled, embarrassed.
It was at that moment that Lewis realized Angel seemed to be taller than
usual. Angel saw the question on his face and grinned. She lifted the hem
of her dress a bit to reveal her shoes: white, platform sandals! Lewis smiled
and shook his head.
"Those are going to be killing you by the end of the night!" he said.
"I just need them long enough to get through our dance together," Angel
said. "Then I'll take them off."
"Ready?" It was the minister. Lewis and Angel nodded. "Ladies and
Gentleman, Mr. and Mrs. Kiniski!" The guests applauded as Lewis and Angel
walked up the aisle, followed by the bridal party toward the building where the
reception would be held.

8pm
Reception Hall
Inside, the reception area literally sparkled. The combination of white and
silver gave the place a preternatural glow. Lewis thought he must be in Heaven
as he watched his Bride glide from table to table, mingling with their guests.
She looked like, well...an angel. Dinner had been over and dancing had begun.
Lewis' mind kept wandering to he and Angel's first dance as Husband and Wife.
He'd never forget how the room seemed to disappear and all he could see and
feel was Angel. The lines of their song, "Not of This Earth" escaped from his
lips as he sang to her in tones only loud enough for her to hear. She had sighed
softly and placed her head on his chest. When it was over, he had kissed her
softly. She smiled up at him and whispered "I love you." It was the best
moment of his life...so far.
He had been keeping their Honeymoon destination a secret but he figured
now would be a good time to tell her since they were leaving in the morning!
He was amazed she hadn't bothereed him about it the past couple of days.
With so much to do she probably just didn't have time to think about it.
When she finally looked his way he motioned her over. She excused
herself from the guests and went to him.
"What's up, Husband of Mine?" she teased. Lewis smiled.
"I thought you might like to know where we're going on our Honeymoon
tomorrow," he said as he reached inside his jacket pocket. Angel's eyes
widened.
"God, I almost forgot!" she said as she flung herself in his lap. "Where,
where, where?!"
Lewis laughed and handed her a small folder. Angel grabbed it and
opened it up. She found plane tickets, brochures and itineraries. She looked
at everything and then gasped.
"Hawaii! We're taking a cruise to Hawaii!" Angel jumped off of Lewis' lap
and leaped around in joy. Lewis just kept laughing as he watched her. She
suddenly stopped and grew serious. "I have to pack!" she exclaimed. Lewis
took her by the hand and pulled her back onto his lap.
"Kate and Briana are already doing it for you," he whispered into her ear.
He kissed the top of her ear causing her to shiver. Angel looked around the
room and only then noticed that Kate and Briana were missing.
"I have great friends," Angel said. She kissed Lewis on the nose and
then jumped off his lap again. She pulled him up off his chair and toward
the dance floor as a Swing number began to play.
"You're kidding, right?" Lewis said. Angel smiled as she shook her head.
She flung her giant shoes off and pushed Lewis ahead of her onto the dance floor.
"C'mon, Lewis, you can toss me around!" Angel challenged. Lewis pulled
Angel close to him and bent down close to her ear.
"I was saving that for later," he purred. Angel giggled.
"Thank you," she suddenly said. Lewis cocked his head to one side.
     "For what?" he asked.
"Everything," Angel said. Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at Lewis.
"Don't thank me yet," Lewis said with a smile. "I haven't even started."

Stay tuned for Part 12...
