Author's note: That little quote up there is from "This Kiss"
performed by Faith Hill and written by Robin Lerner, Annie
Roboff and Beth Nielsen Chapman...I think. I'm not a country
fan but every once in a while a country song catches my attention
and that one seemed appropriate for this segment. And, oh --
you may want to drain the drool pool this time or risk overflow... ;-)

Part 3 - This Kiss
By Ruth (fxnoir@aol.com)

11:50am
Winfred-Louder
Drew sat at his desk pretending to work. He'd been waiting
all morning for just the right time to spring his latest trap on his
archnemesis. He felt the time was drawing near. He went into
his drawer for a pair of scissors and then turned in his chair to face
her. She looked up from her desk. He cringed. It was always hard
to look at her.
"What are you lookin' at, Pig?" Mimi said, annoyance clearly
in her voice.
"Nothin'," Drew replied. He had said it as an insult.
"You're up to somethin'. I can tell. What is it?!" she said, standing.
Drew grinned innocently. "I'm not up to anything. Oh, say,
Mr. Wick said he needed to see you before you went to lunch."
"Yeah, right! As soon as I go to the door you'll spring some
sort of trap. No way, Pig. I'm standin' right here!"
Drew's smile grew. "Perfect!" he said. With that, he leaned
over and cut a string that was barely visible. There was a soft
"wooshing" sound as a large bag of flour dropped from the ceiling
above Mimi's desk. It basically exploded on impact, covering Mimi
and her entire area in a thin coat of powdery white. Drew laughed
as Mimi wiped the flour away from her eyes and spit it from her
mouth. She shot fire from her eyes at Drew. It only made him
laugh harder. At that moment, Mr. Wick came out of his office.
"Mimi, could --Good, Lord! What happened?" Mr. Wick said
as he surveyed Mimi's area. "Did your have an argument with your
powder case?" Mr. Wick laughed at his own bad joke.
"Good one, Sir!" said Drew.
"Yes, well, clean this up before you go to lunch will you, Mimi?"
Mimi was fuming. "Carey, have you seen Reid?"
"Tim? He went down to housewares."
"Hmm...perhaps I'll wait, then, until he comes back up. I
have a little something for him. It's bound to ruin his day and
there are just too many sharp objects down there. Well, I'm off to
lunch!" Mr. Wick took one more look at Mimi and shook his head
before he left. Mimi walked out from behind her desk. She was
about to say something when Lewis and Oswald walked in.
"Hey, Drew," said Lewis. He looked over at Mimi. "Hey, Mimi,
you've got something on your face right here," Lewis jibed while
pointing to a spot on his face. Drew smiled again as Oswald snickered.
Mimi looked at Drew. "I'll get you, Doughboy!" she said.
"And your little freaks too!" she added, referring to Lewis and
Oswald. She stomped off to the restroom leaving a trail of flour
behind her. Lewis, Oswald and Drew all made on "Ooooooooh" face.
"So, you wanna go to lunch?" Oswald asked Drew.
"Yeah," said Drew. "Gimme a minute." Lewis and Oswald
sat down in the chairs in front of Drew's desk while he coordinated
himself. "So how are things going with Angel?" Drew asked as
he shuffled some papers. Oswald started grinning.
"Fine," was all Lewis said. Drew looked up at Lewis.
"Just 'fine'?" asked Drew. "How many days have you been out
since you met?"
"Nine," responded Lewis.
"So basically every day since you met. Have you been to her
place yet?" Drew grinned. He looked over at Oswald who looked
ready to burst. "You OK Oswald?" Oswald just nodded. Lewis
gave him a "Say it and die" look.
"Yeah, I've been over there a couple of times," Lewis said while
still giving Oswald the look.
"And..." said Drew. Lewis didn't respond. "...well? So...did ya
do it?" Drew was smiling with anticipation.
"Well --," Lewis started to say.
"He hasn't even kissed her yet!" Oswald blurted out.
"Great. Thanks, Oswald!" said Lewis.
"You haven't even kissed her?!" Drew said incredulously. "What
are you waiting for?"
"I don't know," Lewis said. "I'm just trying to do things the
'proper' way."
"'Proper'?!" said Drew. "The third date would be 'proper'! The
ninth is...well I don't know *what* that is!"
"No one understands!" Lewis said defensively. "Angel is
intelligent, beautiful, warm, kind...it's amazing I've kept her interested
for one day let alone nine! I have to go slow! I can't screw this up!"
He sighed when he finished. Drew and Oswald were silent for a moment.
"So are you gonna kiss her tonight?" asked Oswald.
"Oswald!" said Drew. "Lewis needs us to be supportive."
He paused a moment. "So are you?"
"Yes!" said Lewis. "All right? Yes!" Lewis sighed again.
"You're probably right. I've put it off too long. I'm so worried about
going too fast that I may be moving too slow."
"You worry too much, Lewis," said Drew as he stood up. Lewis
and Oswald also stood.
"Yeah, Buddy," said Oswald. "Face it, she's gonna like you one
way or another."
"Yeah, sucks to be you," Drew said with a grin.
"Thanks, guys," Lewis said sincerely as they walked off to lunch.
Monday
6:00pm
Angel's apartment
Kate had stopped by for a beer at Angel's behest. She sat
on Angel's couch sipping slowly.
"So he hasn't even kissed you yet?" Kate said. "That doesn't
seem like Lewis. I mean, not that I'd know. I've never dated him.
But I hear things from the guys." Kate watched as Angel paced back
and forth in front of her.
"Maybe I just haven't been putting out the right signals," suggested
Angel.
"Well, have *you* tried to kiss *him*?"
"It's not that easy Kate," Angel replied. "He always sits in the
chair over there so I can't get next to him unless we're standing and
even on my tippy toes I can barely reach his neck let alone his face!
Do you have any idea what it's like to have your puckered up lips
flapping around out there trying to reach above a guy's collar bone?"
Kate cringed.
"Yeah, I guess I hadn't thought about that," said Kate. "Well, have
you tried maybe getting a running start and just jumping up and latching
on until you get in one kiss?" Kate and Angel stared at eachother for a
few seconds and then busted out laughing.
"I'll have to keep that in mind as a last resort," Angel managed
to say as their laughter died down. "Thanks, Kate. I needed that!"
"Any time! Seriously, though. I know he really likes you. Give
him a little more time. I mean, I've never known Lewis to be shy
but I've never seen him so head over heels for someone like he is
for you either."
"Really?" Angel said hopefully.
"Really," stated Kate. "OK, I'm gonna go before he gets here.
Have fun tonight! Stop by the Warsaw later. Me and the guys should
be there."
"We will. Thanks again, Kate."
"See ya later!" Kate left, leaving Angel with nothing to do but
wait for Lewis. She sat down on the couch and sighed. She wasn't
sure how much longer she was going to be able to wait for that
first kiss but she'd do it for him. Or maybe she *would* just leap
on him and take matters into her own hands. Or maybe...Her thoughts
were broken by a knock on the door. Angel jumped up and answered
it. Lewis was standing there wearing a dark blue, tailored suit and
holding a fist full of daiseys. His expression was unreadable.
"Wow," he whispered. Ah...*that's* what that look is. Angel had
on your typical "little black dress" and a pair of strappy high heels.
Lewis couldn't take his eyes off her.
"You like?" Angel asked innocently. She twirled around making
the already short skirt flare out and up, revealing a LOT of leg. Lewis
audibly sucked in a breath. Her evil plan was working. She needed
to get him inside. "Why don't you come in?" she said, taking him by
his free hand and pulling him through the door.
"Yeah, OK," he said, still barely able to talk above a whisper. She
led him easily to the couch and gently pushed him onto it to sit. She
took the daiseys from him and went to the kitchen to put them in water.
She suddenly stopped and changed her mind. She walked back to Lewis.
"Thank you, Lewis, these are beautiful," she said. She then bent
down and kissed him lightly on the cheek. Lewis closed his eyes
and took in another audible breath.
"It's gonna have to be tonight," he thought. "I'll lose my mind if it's
not." He watched Angel walk to the kitchen, her hips swaying seductively.
If he wasn't careful that wasn't ALL that was going to happen. He sat,
opening and closing his hands slowly in an attempt to pump blood back to
his brain. It was all to eager to be in other places.
"So, Lewis," Angel called from the kitchen, "I know we're all dressed
up but do you think we could stay in tonight?" Lewis' eyes became big
as saucers.
"Stay in?" he said back, his voice cracking. He cleared his throat.
Angel came back out of the kitchen carrying a vase with the daiseys in it.
She walked it over to the cocktail table and set them on it, making sure to
bend over right in front of Lewis. Lewis jumped up out of his seat.
"Oh...God! I don't know if staying in is such a good idea!" His tie
suddenly felt like a noose. Angel stood up and turned to face him.
"Why not?" she asked. A small push with her finger tips was enough
to send Lewis back on the couch. He looked up at her, his breathing
getting faster. He tugged at his tie.
"Well...we made reservations and...and we *are* dressed up." He
wasn't even convincing himself. Angel sat down next to him, getting
as close as she could.
"But doesn't a nice night at home sound good? I've got some good
DVDs and we can order take out. And I've got champagne," she said,
batting her eyelashes. She was running one finger lightly up and down
Lewis' arm.
Lewis turned and looked at her. He could smell her hair again, mint
and rosemary. That was going to be his favorite smell for the rest of
his life. He closed his eyes and breathed it in. When he opened them
again, her face was only a couple of inches from his. He brought his
hand up to her face and touched it gently, stroking her cheek with his
thumb. For what seemed like an eternity to Angel, he stayed that way,
just staring at her. Finally, he leaned forward and brushed her lips with
his. The next contact was firmer but still gentle and deliciously long.
When he broke away Angel almost whimpered. Now *she* was the
one breathing quickly.
"That was *definitely* worth the wait," she managed to say. Lewis
smiled and blushed a little.
"I'm glad," he said quietly, "because I plan on doing that every
chance I can get." Angel laughed. Lewis kissed her again...and again...
and again...each kiss getting less and less gentle but definitely more
and more yummy. When their hands started to become more
daring, Lewis suddenly stopped.
"What?" asked Angel. "What's wrong? Why'd you stop?" Lewis
took in a deep breath.
"I was afraid we were getting a little out of control," Lewis said.
"Would that have been a bad thing?"
"Yes!" Lewis said quickly. "I mean, no!" He sighed. "This isn't
coming out the way I mean it."
"How do you mean it?" Angel gently coaxed.
"I mean...I'm trying to do this right. I don't want to rush anything.
It's very important that I don't screw this up."
Angel gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm not going anywhere,
Lewis. Scouts honor," she said, holding up three fingers. Lewis
grabbed the hand she was holding up and planted a quick kiss on it.
"I'm holdin' you to that," he said. He took off his jacket and threw
it onto the chair he usually occupied when at her place. "So what
movie shall we watch?"

9:00pm
The Warsaw
"So at that point I decided, 'Man, I should really get that
removed'," Oswald was finishing. Drew and Kate were a sick
shade of gray as a result of Oswald's story. Kate looked at her
beer and found it unappetizing. She pushed it away.
"Oswald," she started slowly, "the next time you feel the
need to share any storys where strange things get lobbed off
your body...DON'T!"
"Sooorryyy," Oswald said defensively.
"Hey, Lewis and Angel are here!" said Kate, looking towards
the entrance and desperate to change the subject. The two
approached the table. Angel had changed into more casual clothes
but Lewis was still in his suit.
"Hey, guys," said Lewis.
"Hey, you two!" said Drew. "Grab a chair and have a seat!"
"Go ahead and take a seat," Lewis said to Angel. "I'm gonna
run up and change clothes." Angel sat down and Lewis bent down
and kissed her. He then looked up at Drew and Oswald and gave
them a "So there!" look.
Kate smiled at Angel knowingly. "Sooooo..." she started, "how's
your night been going?"
"It's been most excellent," Angel replied, grinning from ear to ear.
"Where'd you guys go?" asked Oswald.
"Umm...we stayed in, actually," Angel said. Drew smiled
and nodded.
"Stayed in, huh?" Drew's question was full of implications.
"So what'd you do?" he asked a little too eagerly. Kate punched
him in the arm. "Ow! What?" Kate gave him a stern look. Angel
was laughing.
"We ordered a pizza and watched a movie. Then we came here.
Pretty uneventful," said Angel. Everyone sat forward in their chairs,
staring at Angel with eager smiles on their faces. "That's it guys,
I swear!" Everyone sat back, looking at bit disappointed.
"Oh," said Oswald. "I was hoping you did a little more. I'm
getting sick of all that mummbling and moaning coming from Lewis'
room every night! If he doesn't get some soon I'm gonna have a
psychotic episode!"
"Oswald!" exclaimed Kate. "For God's sake, she's sitting
right here! Do you have to be so tactless?"
"I'm serious!" said Oswald. "If I don't get some sleep soon
I'm gonna go looney!" Kate put her hand over her face and sighed.
Drew just looked at Oswald and shook his head.
"Sorry, Angel," said Drew. "Sometimes Oswald's well, an IDIOT!"
he said directly at Oswald.
"Drew, it's OK," said Angel. Oswald gave Drew a smug look.
"It doesn't bother me. Oswald always speaks his mind even if it
means he might sound stupid."
"Yeah!" said Oswald. "Wait a minute..." Oswald wasn't quite sure
if he was just complimented or not.
"It's the quality I like most about you , Oswald," added Angel.
Oswald blushed, "Aw, go on!" he said.
"So..." began Drew, "what do you like best about me?"
"Hmm...nothing yet," Angel answered. Drew looked down at
the table and pouted. Angel gave him a nudge. "Drew, I'm kidding!"
Drew looked up and grinned.
"Really?" he said. "So what do you like best?"
"I like it when my best friends stop trying to horn in on my
girlfriend," said Lewis who had walked up behind them.
"Hey, I'm not hornin' in?" Drew said defensively. "I'm just curious!"
Lewis nodded and smiled.
"Just remember I can kick your ass," Lewis said. Drew wasn't
sure if he was kidding or not. Lewis grabbed a chair and sat down
between Drew and Angel. He leaned over and planted another kiss
on Angel. "Miss me?"
"Yes," Angel replied.
"Oh, God," said Drew looking nauseated. "Do you guys have
to be so cute? It's really gross."
"Oh, sorry, Drew," said Angel as she planted a playful kiss
on his cheek.
"Hey, don't do that!" said Lewis.
"Jealous?" Drew asked, a smug little smirk on his face.
"No, I just don't want to have to kiss her after she's had her
lips on your face." Lewis gave Drew another "So there" look.
"Oh, Honey, you'll be OK," said Angel as she kissed Lewis
on the cheek.
"Yech!" said Lewis trying to wipe off the kiss. "You don't know
where that face has been!" Angel, Oswald and Kate were laughing.
Drew wasn't finding it as amusing.
"What are you two laughing about?" Drew said to Kate and
Oswald. "That kiss was more than the two of you have seen in a
while!" Kate and Oswald stopped laughing. It was all too true.
"Well, I've got an early day tomorrow," said Angel. "I should
get home." Angel stood up and Lewis followed suit. She walked
into Lewis' arms and stood up on her tip toes. He bent down and
met her half way. Their "goodnight" kiss quickly escalated into
quite a public display of affection before they finally parted ways
for the evening. Angel left and Lewis sat back down at the table.
Everyone stared at him, smiling.
"What?" Lewis said.
"Just nice to see you happy, Buddy," Oswald said with sincerity.
"Thanks, Oswald," said Lewis. "I *am* happy. And completely,
totally in love!"
"Does she know that?" Kate asked, knowing full well that she
probably didn't.
"Oh, yeah," said Lewis. "'I didn't want to rush things so I waited
over a week to kiss you for the first time. Oh, and by the way, I love
you.' That'll go over real well."
Kate shrugged. "Well I don't know! I thought maybe you
would have told her."
"I love her, but I'm not ready to say it," said Lewis.
"That's something you definitely don't want to rush into,"
Drew said while patting Lewis on the back. "Then they know
they've got you by the balls."
"Drew!" Kate said defensively.
"Oh, then you don't?" Drew said, challenging Kate to disagree.
Kate opened and closed her mouth, starting to say something
but then stopping each time. Finally she sat back in her chair and
crossed her arms in front of her.
"Yeah, that's what I thought," said Drew. He looked at Lewis.
"Put that little phrase off as long as possible, my friend."
"I have to disagree," said Oswald. Kate sat up again.
"Ha! See?" she exclaimed.
"Yeah," said Oswald, "when you say that to a woman it's like
you've given them the best gift in the world and they're yours forever."
Oswald paused. "Or at least until they twist that knife into your stomach
and leave you at the altar!"
Kate rolled her eyes. "Are you EVER going to drop that?" she asked.
Oswald just shook his head "no". Kate sighed. "Fine. I have to go
home. I'll see you guys tomorrow."
"'Night, Kate!" Oswald called after her. Drew and Lewis just
looked at him.
"So are you going to tell her?" Drew asked Lewis.
"*Definitely* not yet!" replied Lewis.
"Good decision," said Drew. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be
off. See ya."
"See ya, Drew," said Lewis. Drew left.
"Well, I'm goin' up," said Oswald. "You comin'?"
"In a couple of minutes," said Lewis.
Oswald stood up. "You're really not going to tell her?"
"Not yet," said Lewis.
Oswald nodded. "'Night, Buddy," he said.
"'Night," said Lewis. Oswald left. Lewis got up from the table
and went to the juke box. He put in some quarters and looked
at the selection. He punched in a song that he normally wouldn't
but the title caught his eye. This Kiss by Faith Hill began to play.
Lewis smiled.
"Not yet," he said to himself, "but soon."
