This question is a little bit tricky. I learned it from my philosophy class.

Question: It took 20 days for all the leaves to fall from a tree. If the number of leaves that fell each day was twice that of the previous day, on which day was the tree half bare?

Geometric series:
Sn = a(1-r^n)/(1-r)
now a = 1, r = 2. n = 20 for all the leaves to fall.
S20 = (1) (1 - 2^20) / (1 - 2) = 1048575
Let n = i for half of the leaves to fall.
Si = (1) (1 - 2^i) (1 - 2) = 1048575 / 2
i = log (2) [ (1048575 / 2) - 1]
i = 18.99999 = 19 round to the nearest day
Therefor it takes 19 days for half of the leaves to fall.

等比數列中..(每一項都等於前面一項的一定倍數)
Sn=a(1-r^n)/(1-r)
n項數和=首項*(1-比率的n次方)/(1-比率)
n=20, 有20個數字
a=1, 第一個數字為1
r=2, 後一項為前一項的2倍
S20=1(1-2^20)/(1-2)=1048575
Si=S20/2=1048575/2, i=第i天樹葉會剩一半
i=log(2)[(1048575/2)-1]
i=18.99999...取最接近數,i=19
因此,在第19天時樹葉會掉一半

要一棵樹的所有葉子落下需要20天。
假設每天落葉的數目是之前一天的落葉數目的兩倍，
請問在第幾天那棵樹是半禿的？

小弟當然知道答案，我老婆出的問題嘛。我給一些
暗示給大家，注意問題的問法，注意問題的字眼，
不要想得太高深，沒有什麼數學，絕對不是用數學
想的，看看問題，答案在問題中。我不能說得太
明，我怕老婆嘛！

我想出3個答案,也不太可能,辜且試試大包圍.
1.根本不會有半禿的一天.
2.1天.
3.20天.

其實這條問題是應該沒有答案的。

Let n be the number of leaves fall on the 1st day,
then 2n is the number of leaves fall on the 2nd day,
4n is the number of leaves fall on the 3rd day,
8n on the 4th day,
16n on the 5th day ......
Therefore, the tree would be half bare during sometimes on the 20th day.

From the question, we have: It took 20 days for all the leaves fall from a tree.
Then, before this 20-day period, that is, on the "0" day, there are 0 leaves fall from the tree.
As the question mentions, then on the 1st day, there will be 2*0 leaves fall, that means 0 leaves fall,
and 0 leaves fall on the 2nd day, 3rd day, 4th day, etc.
Therefore, the tree would never be half bare. (?!)

To conclude, this question is ambiguous!

第一個答法：
假設第一天落下n片葉子，那麼，第二天便會落下
2n片葉子，第三天是4n，第四天是8n，
第五天是16n，如此類推。
看！頭三天的落葉總數是(n+2n+4n)=7n，但第四天
落下來的葉則有8n;而頭四天的落葉總數是15n，
不過第五天則有16n的葉落下。
由此可見，樹會在第二十天的某時候是半禿的。

第二個答法：
因為要一棵樹的所有葉落下需要20天，那麼，在這
20天之前（假設是第"0"天），便有0片葉落下。
如題目所言，每天落葉的數目是之前的落葉數目之
兩倍，所以，第一天便有(2x0)=0片葉落下，
甚至第二天、第三天、第四天也一樣沒有葉會落下。
因此，樹是不會半禿的。

總而言之，這條問題根本就有問得不好。
不要以為我戲弄大家，我只是想和大家分享這條有
趣的問題而已。

順帶一提，我的哲學教授說他試過寫信給這題目的作
者（或出版商），告訴他們這問題有問題，但是他
從來沒收過回信。

問題裏沒指出第一天的落葉數目是多少，所以是不
可能計算的。懶蛇兄Put a=1，當然是錯。
不過如果這是考試題的話，我也會如懶蛇兄般答題。

這問題之所以和哲學有關，是因為教授教我們什麼
是NECESSARILY FALSITY，
例如：2+2=8，這是一定錯的，沒有一個POSSIBLE WORLD
會2+2=8，所以很明顯這是NECESSARILY FALSITY。
而這條問題也是一個NECESSARILY FALSITY，但不是一
看便知道。
