The agents producing such types of effects are known as "Teratogens".
It must be noted that teratogens are not chemicals belonging to a specific class, but different drugs used for therapeutical purposes have the potential to be teratogenic. >> Drugs that have been observed to be teratogenic run as under :- 01) Androgens 02) Valproic acid 03) Ethanol 04) Warfarin 05) Thalidomide 06) Glucocorticoids 07) Lithium 08) Isotretinoin 09) Methotrexate 10) Tetracyclines 11) Di-ethylstibesterol If not possible on a wider scope, we must practice this thing atleast in our sorrounding or the family, who need us too much. It must be kept in mind that pharmacists are known to be experts in drugs, so we must be equiped with the knowledge undefeatable ! BY QAZI FAISAL ZAHEER. 3rd Year B. Pharm. fzqazi@hotmail.com |
