"Teratogenicity" is a condition that is characterized by abnormal growth of somatic cells: especially in the embryo, i.e. there is an abnormal anatomical and/or physiological defect in tissue, organ or system of the developing foetus. The agents producing such types of effects are known as "Teratogens". It must be noted that teratogens are not chemicals belonging to a specific class, but different drugs used for therapeutical purposes have the potential to be teratogenic.

ROLE OF PHARMACISTS ! :-
Pharmacist has to play a vital role in providing the information about the teratogenic effects of these drugs to general public. Particularly in th type of community we live, where there is no care taken about the use of drugs and where the patient history is not emphasized on, it is the topmost or supermost priority of our pharmacists to do that. We should not only analyze the prescription but also look at the different conditions from which the patient is suffering. As pharmacists we should search for the alternarives available and in that case must be in close contact with the physician.
If not possible on a wider scope, we must practice this thing atleast in our sorrounding or the family, who need us too much. It must be kept in mind that pharmacists are known to be experts in drugs, so we must be equiped with the knowledge undefeatable !
