Maoists

I can’t decide if the Maoists are good or bad. If they are good, then why don’t they make the people understand that what they are doing is good? If the people think they are good and really good, Nepal has democracy and they can win the election and make the government of their choice. - Subash

Preserve our assets

Tourism is the main potential to uplift the country. So conservation of our assets is essential, but these are deteriorating daily.
· the main problem is pollution - the roads are full of dirty garbage
· As for the historical temples, the government is not interested in renovating the worn-out sections.

Promotion and transfer of government officials

Hardly any government official is promoted or transferred on the basis of merit. Either he should have strong political connections or he should be rich enough to pay a large sum for a bribe.
· A member of the Board of Directors of Birgung Sugar Factory had worked formally as a conductor on a factory bus. The Minister at that time of his transer was an uncle.
· A Regional Director of Health in the Western Regional Health Services, during the nine month UML rule, was later sent to work in a sub-health post of a small village.
· A doctor committed to a programme to eliminate leprosy in the Western Region was transferred to Janakpur, in spite of pleading for another two years to achieve his goals. He resigned and, fortunately, was appointed by WHO as the chief leprologist in Nepal. - Ajit

Too Many Holidays

We have many holidays: radio holidays, regional holidays, holidays due to strikes, besides the normal weekends and long term holidays. Is this meritorious or not? Already we’re lagging behind in our economy. Now we’re to face the challenge of the 21^st century. - Rabindra

Unemployment

Though the country has manpower, it cannot use it in the concerned areas.
Pulchowk Engineering Campus produces 1000 engineers each year but among them only 30% get a job and the rest of them remain unemployed. Either they fly to foreign countries to earn money or they remain idle in their beautiful country, Nepal. - Chandra
Nepal is a poor country. Each individual citizen of the country gets very few opportunities to do something great. However, the talented ones in various fields, which may be in sports, literature, art, politics or anything else, get negligible support and facilities. The government should be encouraging the rising talents. Actually, what they are gaining is frustration and depression. - Kamal

Water Resources

Nepal is lagging behind, not because it has no resources, but because we haven’t been able to utilise the resources that we have. The reason is due to lack of advanced technology, manpower and lack of enough money.
We can use the water of the rivers to irrigate our land, generate electricity and run power mills. - Jhapindra
If we could generate a high amount of hydro-electricity, we could sell this power to foreign countries.
Proper dams must be built, because every year 170 billions cubic meters of water flow and they carry a lot of valuable soil from Nepal to the Bay of Bengal. - Suraj K.C.

Youth of Nepal

Now the youth have responsibility to develop the country because they are the ultimate source of development. Now we don’t want to wait for NGOs and INGOs to develop our country. We should stop copying fashion and other nasty things which hamper our culture, but copy only good things like science and technology. - Bidur
