Machhapuchre Cup Football Tournament

Our hostel won the GBS Open football tournament for the second time in two years

Himal Prasad Gurung (Class 11), the player with the biggest fan following in GBS, lived upto his reputation in this tournament and was crucial to the success of 10+2 team in the tournament. He scored 7 goals (Second highest) apart from binding the 10+2 team on the field and creating most of the chances for them.

Subin Bhandari was the highest scorer in the tournament with 8 goals. He really relished his last football tournament in school.

Bhim Bahadur Harijan captained the side very well and was, as usual, very reliable under the bar, though he didn't have to do as much work as he had to in the previous years tournament. His saves during the extra-time and the penalty shoot-outs in last years nail-bitting finale is still remembered in the school. I wouldn't be exaggerating much even if I said that it is a folklore within GBS.

A glimpse from the league match against the staff team, which we won 10-0. Nirmal (class 11) tries to force a pass through as Subin B anticipates the pass.

A glimpse from the final against class 10 A, which we won 2-0. Bikash Gurung (Player of the Tournament, class 10) tries to get the ball through the defense of 10+2.

The Winners receive the prizes.

Hostel Kanchanjunga celebrates the victory.
