Here is a picture to perpetuate a stereotype...This picture was taken shortly after a record snowfall: 52cm (that's about 20.5 inches) in a 24 hour period. This happened during one of the snowier winters in years too. All told, about 400cm (14 feet!!!) of snow fell on Thunder Bay that winter. Foolishly, I was living through one of the coldest and worst winters on record in Winnipeg that year. I would have traded the 21 consecutive days of lows below -30C for more snow any day (even though Winnipeg had it's share of snow too)!!
If you look carefully in the picture you will see a car buried under the snow....that is no compact car either, we're talking full sized 4 door American car. . .and oh yeah, a lesson for other northern cities. . . the storm hit Thunder Bay on a Thursday, the street the house is on was cleared three times by Saturday. Roads were perfect by the time I arrived in town.....just had big snow banks. Meanwhile, the street I was living on in Winnipeg was cleaned twice for the entire winter!!!!
By the way, my house is the white one on the left edge of the picture.
