I took this picture because I needed to finish off my roll of film before class the following day. I went outside on a rainy day to take some scenery pictures and brought along my tripod and an umbrella to keep my equipment dry. I set up my tripod and camera underneath a building overhang and had my umbrella resting on the ground where I could grab it and go. After taking a few non-descript pictures of the view I had I looked down at my umbrella and decided it would be a good picture. I took two shots of it: one of it with a shutter speed somewhere around a quarter of a second or so, and an appropriate f# (somewhere around f/11 most likely); the other picture was this one. This picture was shot at a fairly fast shutter speed but I had the lens set at probably f/2.8. Fortunately for me I have a nice old 58mm lens that stops down to f/1.4. The camera I used was a fully manual Minolta SR-3 (a camera that is older than me) set on a tripod with a 58mm lens using Kodak T-Max 100 film. The print was developed for 18 seconds with no polycontrast filter.
