To The Electors
Stony Plain Constituency, Alberta
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN:
In view of a probable early appeal to the electorate of this Province to make choice of representatives for a new Legislature for Alberta, I have decided to place my name before you as a candidate.
You all know me either personally or by reputation.
In view of the great sacrifices being made by our boys and of the heavy burdens being assumed by our country I believe as a people we should economize where possible and secure the best results from what expenditures are made. I shall work for-
(1) The abolition of the requirement of election deposits from candidates; and the payment from the public funds of the necessary election expenses of all candidates to the Legislature who receive a reasonable percentage of the vote;
(2) The initiative, referendum and RECALL;
(3) A reasonable educational test in future from all seeking admission to the right to vote;
(4) A preferential system of marking ballots so that no one can be elected who does not secure a clear majority;
(5) One Board of School Trustees for each Municipality or Local Improvement District;
(6) Improvement in our school texts and courses of study; all necessary texts to be furnished by the Province and every educational facility to be placed within the reach of every child;
(7) Permanence in public improvements;
(8) Appointment to office according to personal fitness;
(9) A clean province where our boys and girls can grow up free from debasing influences;
(10) The development of the spirit of co-operation and of brotherhood, remembering that in all our relations to our fellow men we should be guided by the Golden Rule.
Therefore I confidently appeal to all to give me your hearty support in the coming election.
Because of my absence from home it will not be possible to meet you on the public platform during this campaign. I trust to your sense of right and duty, remembering that your vote is your means of expression of your opinion as to how this country should be ruled.
Beware of any reports that may be circulated at the last to the effect that I have withdrawn from the contest. The result is in your hands,--and God's.
Respectfully yours
