Consolidation

To Mr. Hicks - Aug 31. (no year, probably 1918)
Consolidation
This would be all right for Rexboro; for they would get better Education, at less cost. It would be OK for Wabamun. Our Taxes would be lightened. But it would be most unjust and unfair for Sylvan. They have no Children there now. They may have a few any time. They may be 2 or 3 years without any. We just about make the Tax sufficient to meet Debenture Coupons, which we finish off next year. We have about $520. in hand and a House available for a School & Teacher's residence, to rent. So, we are in good form for starting a School, when necessary.
Surely this $520. can't, legally, be taken from the Sylvan Taxpayers! If Sylvan is put to Wabamun & Rexboro, the School Tax will be 5 times heavier for the Sylvan Taxpayers than it is now; and yet they have no Children whatever in their District

Mr. Thomas Street,
Wabamun,
Alberta.
Dear Sir, -
Replying to your favor of the 31st ult., please find enclosed teacher's agreement in duplicate. Have sent third copy to Dept.
Re Consolidation of Wabamun, Rexboro and Sylvan. If the ratepayers desire further information on this subject, you could arrange with Mr. R.A. Barron, Supervisor of Consolidated Schools, (Edmonton) to address a joint meeting at Wabamun, some time this fall. Mr. Barron would be only too pleased to lay all the facts before you, without any expense attached to his visit whatever. In case of consolidation the $520.00 on hand in Sylvan S.D. still remains the property of that S.D.
Yours truly,
C.O. Hicks
O.T. Wabamun S.D.
