March 28, 2001 Workshop Report |

On March 28, 2001 a workshop was held at Gordon Head United Church, 4201 Tyndall Ave. The meeting was very heated at times due in most part by the strict nature in which the final meeting agenda was enforced and the desire of some of those present to discuss options other than the Community Village Concept.
Of the 200 people attending, 147 returned comment forms. A preliminary review shows that these respondents do not
have a clear majority view. Respondents are about equally split between support and opposition to the
community village concept, with the undecided respondents holding the balance of which view
might be in the majority.
This is quite an impressive opposition considering the nature of the questions posed and the way
the discussion groups were managed. Not withstanding the meeting prohibition against
alternatives to the community village concept, the strong local resident opposition can be
clearly observed. It would have been so much more even handed if the draft questions had been
used instead of the questions actually used.
