Two gold-rimmed champagne flutes of fine crystal, one on its side with the last dribbles of the bubbly puddled on the table; the other still upright but drained dry. A room in a secret hideaway; secluded from the world at large. No television, no radio, no bedside phone, no means of communication at all save the firmly locked door and the window over which the thick curtains have long since been drawn. There is a king-sized bed in this room; it is probably an antique. Yes, of course it is. Four-poster, no canopy. A bed you can get lost in. The sheets and blankets are all a-tangle on this bed. It has obviously been used for pleasurable activities. Two men can be discerned in the untidy results of their union. One is long and lean-limbed; his sandy-coloured hair, in need of a trim, falls over his warm butterscotch-coloured eyes. The other is shorter and slightly stocky in build, he has dark hair and dark eyes that defy an actual colour-coding. One of them is a vampire. The other is living with HIV. It is their first wedding anniversary. And the dark-haired vampire's birthday. He is 374. Or forever 18. They are Baron Gideon Redoak and Joshua Daniel Trevallion. It is their first wedding anniversary. Let us leave them to celebrate it as they see fit. At least it's not snowing. In the Caribbean. *grin* _________________ A. Fraser fraser@library.utoronto.ca
