These children, playing at death; Playing at being vampires. A handful of rings, raised in the candlelight, Tight leather pants, velvet jackets, laced boots. Flames reflect on turned pages, turned heads. Another sepulchural voice reads its dark verse. Blood and death are the theme of the evening. They speak of the dark embrace As if they knew what it meant. White smoke curls up from a dozen cigarettes, Little coffin-nails held by black fingernails. A gathering of Goths, poets and dreamers, A Celebration of the Undead. If they knew... This pale face is not make-up This black cloak is a shroud These fangs are not implants I do not smoke Because I do not breathe If they knew... Their poetry amuses me Death is not romantic Being undead Is nothing to celebrate.
