FAQ's About the Site

Before emailing me for anything, please read the FAQ's to see if your question is answered here.

Q: Will these breedz work in Petz 3(Petz 4)(Petz 2)?
A: First of all, they really aren't like hexed breedz. You download .pet files for you to put into your Adopted Petz folder not .cat or .dog files for Resource. Since they aren't hexed, these petz will work in either Petz 3 or 4 but not Petz 2.

Q: How do I unzip files?
A: To Unzip something, you first need Winzip (Winzip.com). Once that is installed, you need to double-click the downloaded file. I window will pop up. Read it, and hit "I Agree." Push the button that says "Extract" and either browse for your Adopted Petz folder or enter it in the blank for "Extract to:" The path should be something like C:\Program Files\PF.Magic\Petz 4\Adopted Petz or C:\Program Files\PF.Magic\Petz 3\Adopted Petz

Q: What do you do with the dogz(catz) after you are done breeding a certian breed of dog(cat)?
A: The final product of the breeding project is the original 8 (4 females and 4 males who have purebred offspring), which are put up for download on the breed page. The animals that I bred and are anscestors of the original 8 are put into the Catz or Dogz section in the "Adopt" area of my site. (These are form adoptions and not cloned.) The other animals born during the breeding project that were not suitable for breeding are put up for download in the "Shelter." No petz are deleted, abused, or neglected.

Q: Can you breed a ...?
A: Sorry. I don't do requests. Most of my projects are surprizes to even me!

Q: Why haven't you updated?
A: Even with forwarding the time, it takes weeks to make a new breed. Plus, this is just a hobby. I have lots of other stuff I do. Be patient.

Q: Can we be e-pals?
A: I don't have time for any right now.

Q: Can we be sister sites?
A: I'd rather not have any sister sites. I enjoy being a lone wolf.

Q: Will you link to me?
A: My links page has a neat little form you can fill out and add your link automatically.

Q: I hate frames! Why do you use them?
A: Frames make the site easier to update, faster loading, and much more organized. My frames also lack the scroll bars that can bug people, and I check my html code to make sure all my links open in proper windows. If frames are done properly, they are much more convienient than non-frames sites.

Q: Some of your links don't work!
A: Well, it might be that Geocities is doing technical things that mess with my site or I may have messed up the HTML. Please email me when a link doesn't work.

Q: What kind of editor do you use to make your site?
A: I edit the raw HTML code. It took me months to teach myself, so I wouldn't recommend it to beginners.

Q: Where is your site hosted?
A: Geocities, because I like the quick loading and uploading, html editing, and 15 MB of space. Here are some other good sites to look into if you want to build a site:
Expage: Not a lot of options but it is the fastest and easiest site editor. You can't really upload anything or change the HEAD tag of the pages.
Homestead: An excellent site for beginners. The editor is really easy to use, but can crash or not even load on some computers or browsers. Uploading is a breeze, and you get lots of space. Plus, you can make multiple sites.
Angelfire: A lot of my friends use Angelfire. It had a little less space than Geocities, and you can upload only one file at a time, but you can upload .pet files without having to convert them to .exe or .zip.
XOOM: I don't have any experience with XOOM.I found it a bit confusing to get started. You do get unlimited space, but the page editor thay offer is very limiting.
Crosswinds: A fantastic site! You get unlimited space for either personal or commercial sites. It is extremely slow during some times of day, and you can upload only 10 files at a time. The only online editor is a raw HTML code one. You can't link to files hosted there from elsewhere. If you are experienced with HTML and want a huge site with no ads, this site is great.

Q: I don't have email. Can you recommend a place with free email?
A: Sure! The following email servers are all great and let you receive attachments:
Hotmail: The one I use. It filters out bulk (junk) email for you, and hes lots of neat features.
Netscape: Not bad. It uses frames and doesn't work on older browsers.
Mail.com: Really fun. :-) You can get an address like @writeme.com, @usa.com, @cute.com, @mad.scientist.com ...
Nameplanet: Here, you can get yourfirstname@yourlastname.net

Q: How do you make frames?
A: Okay, I taught myself HTML over the course of two years by veiwing HTML coding on other sites. I, however, cannot explain things very well, so here are some links to very well-made sites that will help (they will open in a new browser window):
Frames Decoder--This will generate a code to get you started.
Slackers Guide--This page explains targets for linking and other vitals including resizing and getting rid of scroll bars.

Q: How do you make tables?
A: Like with frames, there are people who can explain much better than I, so check out the link below.
Slackers Guide--All the basics for table-making.

Q: What does it mean to "Break out of Frames"? I see it at the top of a lot of sites.
A: Some sites that use frames forget to make the target for links to other sites "_top" or "_blank". Without these target tags, the linked site will open in that sites frames. The "Break out of frames" link on sites links to the site's main url with the correct target tag.

Q: Why do some sites ask you to push Reload?
A: Your computer stores information from sites so that it can load more quickly. When you visit where you've been before, your computer simply loads the page from memory rather than connecting and loading from the internet server. Hitting "Refresh" or "Reload" tells your computer to load the page from the internet. Computers will hold old information from sites sometimes for days, so if you visit a site (that updates) more than once a week, you should hit "Reload" on your browser to get the most updated version.

Q: Are you against Petz abuse? Why don't you have any anti-abuse banners?
A: Petz fighting and abuse is stupid, but it is also stupid to dwell on. There are many more serious issues in the world, and this site is for Petz Selective Breeding, nothing else. I don't need a lot of extra things slowing my site and cluttering it.

Q: Why don't you have contests/about me/"find it"/etc.?
A: Because I don't want them. This site is going to be loaded with my selective breedz. That is the sole purpose of this site. Other sites serve their purposes. My site serves mine.

Q: Why do you use Courier New?
A: I like the typewriter look.

Q: Why do tou have such ugly graphics?
A: They are to my liking. I made them, and they are exactly how I want them.

Q: Why do you use such large font?
A: My vision is something like 200/20 (or vice versa, I forget). I have to wear expensive contact lenses all the time and need reading glasses to read. We all have our little faults, and my vision is mine. Many monitors aren't very large, and I enjoy mine in 1024 x 768 resolution. It is better to have large font for those who can't see than to satisfy the complaints of those who see fine.
