The New Iona

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

To-day this prophesy is being fulfilled in an other Calumcille called  'big barn' or  in Gaelic, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Just as Iona started as a wooden structure so too did SMO. It was here that the renaissance of Celtic and Gaelic culture was kindled in the hearts of a few dedicated men who would struggle for years against an apethetic and dis beleiving contempory Scotland. A Scotland that had lost its identity with the its historic past and linguistic heritage.

Men of learning from the finest Universities in Britain now pay tribute to this tiny center of Gaelic culture. To-day within its walls are to be found the MacCormick Collection and the Celtica Collection.

These macnificent collections creates at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig a resource of immense national and international significance, both in terms of Academic Research and Cultural Heritage.

In Iona of my heart, Iona of my love,                               Instead of monk's voices, shall be lowing of cattle,        But ere the world should come to an end,                             Iona shall be as it was.
