Kristoffer's

Benefit

We are in the process of adopting a little boy from an orphanage in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan.  He is turning 3 years old on December 23, 2001.  Kristoffer has been living in the orphanage since he was born.  His mother, due to economic hardship, refused him at birth.  He was taken to the orphanage shortly after he was born and has lived there his entire life.  Kristoffer is a healthy little boy with a slight developmental delay due to poor nutrition and living in the orphanage, but with love and proper nutrition, that can all be fixed.  We have had a long road for his adoption.  Adoption approvals take a very long and tedious time.  We finally have all of our approvals for the adoption, and are now waiting to be invited to Pavlodar by the Kazak government.  We expect the invitation to come within the next few weeks, and we are planning on traveling to go and get Kristoffer in early January.  According to Kazak laws, we are required to remain in Kazakhstan for a full two weeks with Kristoffer as an adjustment period, and after that two weeks is up, we have to go through the Kazak courts to finalize the adoption in Kazakhstan.  As you might imagine, the costs of the adoption are astronomical and although we have been able to scrape up much of the costs on our own, the $20,000.00 + costs are daunting.  We are hoping that by having the fundraiser we might be able to at least raise some of the costs of the adoption and traveling to and staying in Kazakhstan.   We are also hoping that the fundraiser will raise awareness of international adoption and public support for those who go through an adoption.
