Sonnets
"Divine Woe"

One night beneath a cloudless sky I saw
An angel clad in effervescent light.
I watched in silence as her wings did draw
A path of shimm'ring stardust through the night.
Then suddenly, she caught my wand'ring eye,
And held it fast in her celestial stare,
Whilst utt'ring forth a mournful, piteous sigh,
Like one whose heart dwelled in some other Where.
She parts her velvet lips, as if to speak,
But, lo, a tiny tear makes its descent.
With passion fierce, she flings it from her cheek;
To earth it falls, as if by heaven sent.

That diamond droplet to this day I've kept,
Reminding me of when an angel wept
"Longing"

As night creeps toward the sleepy haze of morn,
I sit alone, your presence long past-due.
The fabric of my reverie is torn
'Twixt happiness and thoughts that you're untrue.
With every passing hour that I wait,
A frightened sorrow slowly grips my mind.
I realize the frailty of this state--
Why should
I mourn when you have been unkind?
Then, slipping off into a restless sleep,
I dream of blissful days that since are past:
When sparks ignited fire, and love was deep;
Each kiss evoked a mem'ry that would last

Is true love an illusion that will fade;
Some semblance of a daily masquerade?
"Silence"

I need not speak when looking in your eyes.
Their depths reveal what your heart doth desire.
Words fall away to show where passion lies;
The place in you of which I could not tire.
I see it in each smile, each stolen glance,
That pulls me toward the fear I know so well.
For if I see within you, there's a chance
You saw the secret that I could not tell.
Emotion is a fragile gift to give,
And once bestowed, it still may stand alone
To yearn in silence while we strive to live,
Our hearts existing, yet now as our own.

To gaze 'pon you is to look in your soul,
And then somehow, those eyes have made me whole.
