Origins of Coffee
As for the origins of coffee, some legends place the discovery of the coffee bean and its properties
in Abyssinia (later known as Ethiopia), though there are no hard facts on the matter. It is generally
agreed, however, that the beverage we now know as coffee (derived from roasting beans, grinding them and then steeping them in hot water) gained popularity
in the 15th century in the Near East, or Arabia. Throughout the centuries, coffee has been both praised and vilified for its
invigorating effects.
