2004 Reports
Thursday April 16th played in Galbally Junior 'A' county league. Galbally 1-2 Kilmalock 2-7 Despite the distant scoreline and considering this was the home sides first outing this year, Galbally did play quiet well in this game and deserved more from it. Damien ' Connell got the first point of the game after only three minutes and Galbally were looking quiet positively at the game. In the full forward line John Magner and Damien O' Connell were working well together and the chances were being created. Galballys next point was scored by Pat O' byrne to leave it 0-2 to 1-5 at the break. Kilmalock took more control in the second half and te extended their lead by a massive margin. Damien O' Connell then get a great constellation goal for Galbally. TEAM: D. Hayes, A.Sheehan, M.Sheehan,P.McEniry, S.Hanley, C.Finnan, K.Denihan,W.Staunton,J.Scully, D.O'Connell, J.Magner,W.Casey, J.Hayes, P.O'Byrne.
U-21 'A' South championship final played in Galbally Saturday 17th April Galbally 1-8 Ballylanders 1-10 This was a disopointing result for us, but all on the home team should be glad of their performance as they put in 100% from end to end. Galbally held the majority of the poccession in the early stages and were creating the most chances. Their firstr two points were scored by Vinny O' Connell from frees and their next was scored by denis Scully from play. At this brought the scorline to 0-3 to 0-5, Bally then got a goal to extend their lead. Vinny O' Connell then got two more frees before the break to leave it 0-5 to 1-6 at half time. The second half was much the same as thew first with both sides producing chances. Vinny O' Connell scored anther point early in the half and along with a goal from stephen bourke this left it 1-8 to 1-6. This made Galbally stronger and from their on in were perservering for a second goal. Credit must go to goalie Ger Ryan who at one stage was forced to make a save that kept Galbally in the game. Galballys last two points were scored by Stephen Bourke and Kevin Denihan and it was this point that brought the sides level, but unfortunately Bally scored two last points to leave it 1-8 to 1-10 at full time. They now take on Pallasgreen this Thursday evening 22nd April in Hospital. The u-12 camogie had a very good win over stiff opposition Castletown/Ballagran last Thursday on a scoreline of 0-0 to 1-0, that goal was scored by Louise Casey. They have three more games left and are going very well in the league, but have no game this week. The u-14s also had a great win last tuesday evening when they bet Murroe/Boher on a scorline of 2-1 to 0-0. The u-16s however were not so lucky last Friday evening when they were beaten at home by Crecora on a scoreline of 0-2 to 2-2.
U-21 County quarter final Thursday 22nd/April in Hospital Galbally 4-12 Pallasgreen 0-7 The scoreline here speaks for itself as galbally were highly motivated and dominated throughout. They got off to a flying start with less then three minutes played when Bob Healy had a great shot on goal which hit the crossbar and Denis Scullly was on hand to fist home the opening goal. Galbally continued their scoring spree scoring eight points in the opening half. Their second goal was scored after roughly fifteen minutes by Bob Healy, that left it 2-5 to 0-1and Galbally were well in the driving seat. They then added a further three points before Bob Healy got his second goal which was literally the last kick of the half. 3-8 to 0-3 at half time. The second half was no different to the first as Pallasgreen had no answers to Galballys strong forwards and could not break down Galballys defence. Goal number four was scored early in the half by Vinny O' Connell. Galbally then scored a further four points to leave it 4-12 to 0-7 at full time. Team: G.Ryan, T.Henebry,T.Davern,C.Henebry,A.Noonan,B.O'Donnell,V.Sheehan (0-1), P.Hyland,J.Ryan(0-2), T.Harty(0-1),L.Casey, V.O'Connell(1-6), B.Healy(2-0), S.Bourke(0-2) and D.Scully(1-0). Subs used: J.Brazzil for D.Scully, F.Kiely for T.Davern and J.Hayes for V.O'Connell. Galbally continued they winning ways last Saturday night when the intermediate team got their championship campaign off to the dream start when they bet Oola 2-12 to 0-8 in Hospital.
Minor football championship, played in Galbally Friday 30th April
Galbally 3-5 Moonaleen 2-13
The last time these sides met was in the minor county final last October, so this game was bound to be a cracker.
And it lived up to that expectation. Moonaleen were first to get a point, but once Galbally scored there was no looking back. Paul Bourke, Jonathon Scully, Pa Murphy, Liam Casey, Denis Scully and James Ryan all got early points for Galbally. James Ryan the got his first goal of the game shortly before half time to leave it 1-9 to 1-1 at the break.
The second half was no different to the first we continued to dominate but did have quiet a few wides. James Ryan then got his and Galballys second goal to leave it 2-13 to 3-5.
THE TEAM: G.Ryan, T.Davern, S.Heelan ,Eamon C, L.Power, A. Noonan, S.Guerin, L.Casey (0-1), J.Ryan (2-2), W.Staunton (0-3), K.Denihan (0-1), J.Scully (0-1), D.Scully (0-2), P.Murphy (0-1) and P.Bourke(0-2).

Senior football south semi-final played in Ballylanders Sunday 2nd May.
Galbally 2-10
Galtee Gaels 2-7
This was yet
another good win for us this weekend. The scores were slow to
come in the early stages but Galbally were leading 1-5 to 1-1 at
half time thanks to great pints from Eddie Scully, Deckie Dineen
and Pat Ryan.
Galtee Gaels got more into the game in the second half and were
pilling on the pressure. The sides were then level at 1-6 to 1-6
and Galbally needed a second goal. Vinny O Connell was then
brought on for Galbally and immediately had an effect on the
game, scoring Galballys second goal with ten minutes to go. That
left it 2-10 to 2-7 at full time.
THE TEAM: G.Ryan,
M.Sheehan, J.Kiely, E.Bourke, J.Sheehan, M.O Dea, P.Hyland,
R.Bourke, M.O Donnell, D.O Dea (0-1), E.Scully (0-3),
T.Harty, T.O Donnell (0-2), P.Ryan (0-1) and D.Dineen (1-3).
SUBS: V.O
Connell (1-0), A. Noonan and B.O Donnell.
Our junior
football team took on Castletown/Ballagran last Thursday, this
was there second game of the campaign and unfortunately were
beaten 1-8 to 0-7.
CAMOGIE Galbally 2-3 Croak/Kilfinny This was the first in a serious of three good wins for Galbally this week as the u-14s ensured for themselves a place in the county final. Scorers on the night for us were Anne Hogan and Clare Mullins. On Thursday night the u-12s swept away Kilmalock by 5-0 to 0-0. The Goals were scored by Triona O' Donnell who got two and Anne Magner, Siobhan Cormack and Orla Hickey. Their next game is on Thursday and if a win is achieved then they are in the county semi.
FOOTBALL. The u-21s took on Drom/Broadford last Saturday night in the county semi final in Kilmalock. Galballys first four points were scored inside seventeen minutes and were all from play. Vinny O' Connell then got two points one from play and one from a free to leave Galbally in the lead at half time, 0-6 to 0-4. From the beginning of the second half Drom/Broadford were the better side scoring five points in twenty minutes. Bob Healy then received a great ball and from just outside the square scored the only goal of the game. That left it 1-8 to 0-8. But Drom/Broadford never gave up and in the end Galbally were quiet lucky winning on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-11. They now take on local rivals Ballylanders in the final. TEAM: G.Ryan, T.Davern, T.Henebry, C.Henebry, A.Noonan, B.O' Donnell, P.Hyland, T.Harty, J. Ryan, V.Sheehan, V.O' Connell (0-4), L.Casey(0-2), D. Scully(0-1), S.Bourke(0-3) and B.Healy(1-0). Galball went on to play the county final the following Saturday night in Hospital. There they met our near neighbours Ballylanders. Unfortuneately i was'nt around for the game but thankfully Galbally came out on top winning on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-6!!!!!!!!!!!!
Galbally 1-13 Galtee Gaels 3-7 All roads led to Hospital last Saturday night as Galbally contested their second championship game this year. They started off well and within ten minutes they were leading 1-3 to 0-0, credit must go to Eddie Scully who was man of the match in the night and kicked some fine points, and also the only Galbally goal of the game. Despite the early lead the game was level at half Time as Galtee Gaels got a late goal in the first half. Galbally started the second half well with points from Tom O' Donnell, Stephen Bourke and Eddie Scully. It took Gaels fifteen minutes to score their opening point of that half. Galbally then gave away a penalty which left it 2-6 to 1-10. Galballys final points of the game were scored by Eoin Bourke and Eddie Scully, Galtee Gaels then got a third goal to level it up in the dying moments of the game, that left it 1-13 to 3-7. This is a game in which Galbally will probably reflect on and feel they should have won. Team:G.Ryan,A.Noonan,J.Kiely,C.Finnan,B.O'Donnell, J.Sheehan,S.Bourke,M.O'Donnell,J.Ryan,P.Hyland(0-1), E.Bourke(0-3),T.Harty,T.O'Donnell(0-2),S.Bourke(0-1) and E.Scully(1-6) Also well done to our very own Vinny O' Connell who started as corner forward for the limerick u-21 team that swept awat Tipperary in the Munster championship game. Vinny scored 1-2 in that game.

Galbally
2-13 0-12 Ballylanders Minor game Sunday March 23rd
This
was yet another exciting game between the neighbouring villages.
Galbally played brilliantly, despite the fact that many key
members of the team had played a cup final in soccer that morning
which they also won well.
Their
first pint was scored by Vinnie O' Connell who played brilliantly
and it was also Vinnie that scored the goal in the soccer match
in the morning to bring it level. Their next was scored by
Jonathon Scully then Vinnie O' Connell scored two more pints.
Tommy Hayes then added his name to the scoreboard. Galbally then
took control when Jason McEnirney scored a brilliant goal for
Galbally from close range. Seanie Hanley then got Galballys last
pint of the half to leave it 1-8 0-4 at the break.
In the
early stages of the second half Ballylanders got four quick pints
and were really getting back in the game. Pa Fox who plays soccer
with Galbally and was playing with them that morning was now
playing against Galbally and he was playing well. But Padraig
Hyland and James Ryan who were midfield for Galbally were
unstoppable and Padraig the got two great pints from far out.
Ballylanders then got two more pints. But Tommy Hayes was there
again for Galbally and he then scored their second goal of the
game to leave it 2-10 0-8. Kevin Denihan the went in for Tommy
Hayes and Eamon Cormack replaced Jonathon Scully.
Padraig
Hyland who was having a great game then got another pint for
Galbally, which was followed by a pint from Denis Scully.

being replaced by Willie Staunton. Padraig Hyland then got
Galballys last score of the day to leave it 2-13 0-11 at the
final whistle. Others who were great on the day for Galbally were
Tony Henebry who was like a rock in the backs and James Ryan who
was outstanding in the midfield and Ger Ryan in goals who was
forced to pull off some great saves.

South
'A' Championship final.Galbally 3-12 Kilmallock 1-6
The
sides meet a fortnight ago where Kilmalllock bet Galbally
by two pints, but that was not to be the result this time round.
The game was the first of two great games of football in Galbally
last Saturday. The weather was perfect and was played in front of

the early stages of the game, with early pints coming from the

from Bob Healy, Seamus Burke 0-1, And Tomas Harty who got 0-2.
The first goal was scored about ten minutes before half time by
Stephen Burke to leave it 1-9 to 1-6 at the break.
Galbally

with James Ryan, Vinnie O' Connell and Padraig Hyland showing us
just why they are on the Limerick minor football team.
Bob
Healy then got his first gaol of the day for Galbally fifteen
minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 2-9 to 1-6.
There was no stopping the home side at this stage and there was

MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP FRIDAY 25th
APRIL IN GALBALLY.
I dont think anybody from either teams
could forget the last time these sides met in the minor football
county final on the 12th of October last, where Galbally were
victorious with a 3-4 to 1-9 win, but this was'nt to be the case
this time round. Monaleen dominated the early stages of the game
and scored an early goal. After five minutes of play they were
leading 1-2 to 0-0. Galballys first pint was Scored by Denis
Scully which he followed up with a great goal to bring the score
to 1-1 to 1-2. Monaleen then took over the game for the next few
minutes to leave it 1-1 to 1-5. Galbally then rose and started to
play some beautiful football. Padraig Hyland then scored a pint
from a free to leave it 1-2 to 1-5.
As if Galballys night could'nt get much
worse James Ryan was then sent off and the pinch was immediately
felt as he was a major loss in the midfield. Kevin Denihan then
replaced Colin Keagh in the forwards. Padraig Hyland then got his
second pint of the game for Galbally from a free to leave it 1-3
to 1-5 at half time. Pa 'Murra' Murphy then added his name to the
scoresheet to leave it 1-4 to 1-5. Galbally were now playing well
and catching up to Monaleens score.
Galbally super-sub Kevin Denihan who was
having a great game then scored a pint to leave it level.
Monaleen the got another pint which was followed by a pint from
Tommy Hayes to leave it 1-6 to 1-6. Monaleen then took the lead
again when they got yet another pint. Aidan Noonan then had the
killer chance for Galbally when he had a shot on goal which
landed right in the keepers hands.
Kevin Denihan then got another pint to leave
it 1-7 to 1-7. Galbally then took the lead for the first time in
the game when Padraig Hyland scored another pint from another
free to leave it 1-8 to 1-7. The sides then became level when
Monaleen got another pint.
Galbally were now playing brilliantly but it
was a case of too little too late and Monaleen then scored two
late goals to leave the score at full timne 1-8 to 3-8.
The team: Ger Ryan, Colin Keogh, Enda Corbett, Thomas Davern, Aidan Noonan, Padraig Hyland, Francais Kiely, Seanie Hanley, James Ryan, Pa Murphy, Vinnie O' Connell, Denis Scully, John Heelan, Tommy Hayes and Jonathon Scully. The subs were Kevin Denihan (Colin Keogh), Gearoid Power and Liam Power.
INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN
BALLAGRAN.
Glin 1-7 Galbally 0-9
Galbally started this game brilliantly and had the majority of the play in the first half anf were well on top at half time with a 0-8 to 0-1 lead at the break.
Their first pint of the game was scored by John Sheehan from a free and the next was scored by his brother Vinnie who had and alroung great game. John Sheehan the got two more pints from frees in the first half before Vinnie Sheehan, Seamie Morrissey and Tom Harty scored for Galbally to leave it 0-8 to 0-1 at half time. From the restart Glin were determined to get a goal and they had'nt long to wait, after about a minute of play in the second half they were awarded a penalty which they scored to leave it 0-8 to 1-1. Glin were now catching up to Galbally s score and were playing well. Three pints followed the goal and Galballys lead was getting smaller and the pressure was on. The score was now 0-8 to 1-4 and Glin were only a pint behind. Galballys James Ryan then replaced Sham Bourke and Mickey O' Dea replaced Vinnie O' Connell. Galbally tyhen got two frees but unfortunately were saved by the Glin keeper. Glin the got another three quick pints to give them the lead. Jame Ryan the got back a pint for Galbally to leave it 0-9 to 1-7 at full time. The ref was'nt doing us any favours and Galbally had a contriversial pint which we reckon went over but the two umpiors said it was wide, but if it was wide we should have at least given us a 45.
The Team: James Noonan, Alan Noonan, Conor
Henebry, Tom O' Donnell, Sham Bourke, Eoin Bourke, Padraig
Hyland, John Sheehan, Mickey McGrath, Billy Harty, Stephen
Bourke, Tom Harty, Vinnie Sheehan, Seamie Morrissey and Vinnie O'
Connell. The Subs: Patrick Ryan, Martin Dineen, Mickey O' Dea,
Billy Hayes and Aidan Sheehan.
JUNIOR LEAGUE WEDNESDAY 30th OF APRIL IN GALBALLY.
Galbally 1-6 Kilmallack 2-8
I wasnt as this game cos John was gone to the international between Ireland and Norway. (Which Ireland won thanx to the great Damien Duff!!!) But Johnny Wallace told me they played their hearts out and that Seanie Hanley was man of the match
The team: Aidan Sheehan, Mike Richardson, Ger Fahy, Seanie ODonnell, Mike Sheehan, Richard Bourke, Johnny Hayes, Seanie Hanly, John Barry, Declan Wallace, Liam Cunningham, Pat Byrnes, Dessie Hayes, Denis Ryan, Billy Hayes.
JUNIOR LEAGUE THURSDAY 1st MAY IN BRUREE.
The home side totally dominated this game and Galbally had no answers to some of their midfielders. It was also John Magners first game as a selector for Galbally Gaa club and combined with Johnny Wallace on the sideline, it was a laugh a minute for me!!! Bruree scored an early goal and also got six opints in the first half, Galbally managed to get a single pint which was scored by Liam Cunningham, (Buster) then again Galbally were playing against a hill in the first half. The score at half time was 0-1 to 1-6, a good lead for any team to have.
Then at half time two subs were brought in, I'm not really sure who they were. Galbally then went through a phase where they played some great football and Liam Cunningham got a second pint and Billy Hayes got one, but Bruee were very still on top. Pat O' Byrne played very well for Galbally in the backs and Michael Richardson played well in midfield. Brueee kept scoring though and at full time the score was 0-3 to Bruees 3-12.
The team: Aidan Sheehan, Pat O' Byrne, Mike Sheehan, Quin Perry, Ger Fahy, Billy Hayes, Denis Ryan, Johnny Hayes, Ned Harty, Michael Richardson, Carole Drea, John Barry and Liam Cunningham. The subs: Deckie Wallace, Dessie Hayes, Tommy Hayes Patrick McEniry and Stephen Cunningham (or Stevie wonder as Johnny Wallace called him!!!).
U-21 CHAMPIONSHIP 5th MAY IN BALLAGRAN .
Galbally 0-10 Desmonds 1-16
Desmonds dominated the early stages of the
game but as the half shoved on Galbally piled on the pressure.
Galbally were however the team that took the lead with an early
pint from Billy Harty. Galbally got six more pints before the
break which were score by Billy Harty who got 0-3, Stephen Burke
0-1, Bob Healy 0-2 and James Ryan 0-1
Just before half time Galbally were awarded
a free from which Bob Healy scored and from the kick out Galbally
regained posation and immediately pushed forward the ball was
crossed into the square where Bob Healy was ready but
unfortunately the Desmonds keeper was awake and was present to
make a great save. The score at the break was 0-7 to 0-5.
From the throw in Galbally were pushing for a goal to extend their lead but luck was'nt exately on their side. Desmonds were however now playing beautiful football and the pace of the game had encreased, Desmonds were now well on top. Bob Healy then scored from a free. Billy Harty scored from play and Billy Hayes scored from a free, Galbally were now leading by a pint and holding on by a thread.
Desmonds never gave up and they got their tenth pint of the day within minutes of the whistle to leave it 0-10 to 0-10 at full time. The game was then forced to go to extra time.
If Galbally were to continue from where they left off in normal time they would have been well on top, but it was not to be and it seemed as if Desmonds were a different team they piled on pressure and scored six pints. the killer blow came fro Galbally with six minutes left when desmonds scored a goal, then two minutes later they got a second goal to wrap it up. The final score after extra time was Galbally 0-10 to Desmonds 1-16.
THURSDAY 15th MAY JUNIOR IN GALBALLY.
Galbally v- Castletown/Ballagran
I cannot believe Junior football! I dunno what to think of it. The match was meant to start at 7:30 in Galbally myself and John were there at 7:00 or around that. By half past All the Ballagran team were there but Galbally had only half a team and the game didnt start until at least 7:50, it that was soccer in the Tipp league if the game was meant to start at 7:30 it would start at that time and if one team were last theyd get a big fat fine. But anyway!
The visitors were the dominant side in this game and were in the lead throughout the whole game, Galbally were however, missing key members of their squad. Galbally only got two pints in the first half one scored by Seanie Hanley and the other was scored by Denis Ryan. Ballagran were leading 1-5 to 0-2 at half time.
Again in the second half the visitors were well on top and it was when they got their second goal that their win was well and truly sealed. I dont know what the score was at full time cos I had to leave at half time but all I know it that Ballagran won easy.
SATURDAY 17th MAY INTERMEDIATE IN BALLABRAN

Gallbally were then forced to react quickly, and they did James Ryan and Eddie Scully were on top form and five minutes after Monagea had taken the lead both players had scored two pints to bring the sides even. Billy Harty then added his name to the scoreboard when he got a point it was now 0-5 to 1-0. Gallbally then broke the ice another minutes later when great work up the wing by Gallballys man of the match Eddie Scully and Seamie Morrissey gave Billy Harty a great chance on goal, Billy scored, Galbally were now in the lead and well in control. At this stage in the game nothing could go wrong for Galbally and before the break Padraig Hyland and James Ryan got a pint each to leave it 1-7 to 1-0 at half time.
Monagea started to play better football in the second half and seamed to have the better of the chances, they were now also playing with the wind. They took over the midfield and scored two great pints within five minutes after the restart.Galbally were then awarded a free from which, Eddie Scully scored. Vinnie O Connell then replaced Tomas Harty. Galballys second goal came ten minutes later, and just at the right time Eoin Bourke received a great ball from Vinnie O Connell and buried it. Galbally were now leading 2-8 1-3. Monagea were still pushing fro a goal but were reduced to 14 men with fifteen minutes left, Eddie Scully was also forced to come off and was replaced by Mickey O Dea. FRIDAY 1st AUGUST MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN GALBALLY.
Galbally 2-10 Oola 1-4 This was a game in which great heart was shown by a strong Galbally side won were gunning for glory from the word go. Early domination and three early points from Vinnie O' Connell from a free, Liam Casey and Padraig Hyland, gave Galbally the perfect start. Oola were however first to get a goal which kept put them a point ahead of Galbally as they had also scored an early point. Galballys break came not long after that when Pa Murphy received a great ball from Tony Henebry and scored from close range to leave it 1-3 to 1-1. Galbally followed up the goal with two points from Vinnie O' Connell, one from a free and one from play to leave it 1-5 to 1-3 at half time. The second half of the game was not one a minute when Pa Murphy struck again and added to Oolas' misery, the game was now 2-5 to 1-3 and Galbally were taking more control.
