| In my world, comic books are as important as just about anything. Every Wednesday I get my list of comics that I am expecting and I go to my local comic shop where my good friend (he's my friend because every week I pay him for my comics ...) gives me the comics he has held for me at my request. I then proceed to compare what he gave me with what I wrote on my list for the week and then pick up anything he may have missed. As I said, I go through this routine weekly ... I spend Wednesday nights reading some of the comics I just bought (some I wait for a more complete story; some I just casually glance through at this time) then I follow up by bagging & boarding my new comics. About once a month, I have to get out all of my boxes of comics and cycle-in all of the recently purchased stuff in with the old stuff. Before I put the new in with the old, I catalogue them in my database. Yes, I am THAT much of a dork. Are they worth anything ... that is the question that every non-dork inevitably asks. My answer is always the same: "To me, YES!" Right now, I am in the midst of two huge company-wide crossovers at the big two (DC and Marvel for you uninitiated ... DC does Superman and Batman ... Marvel does Spider-man, OK?). The crossovers are DC Countdown to Infinite Crisis and Marvel House of M. Both crossovers encompass most of the books in the respective libraries and include additional books that are crossover exclusive. I currently think that DC Countdown is the better crossover simply because House of M is too much like a former crossover, Age of Apocalypse. That being said, DC Countdown is also WAY more expensive and time consuming. |
