Chinese Canadian     Nov 11, 2001

Chinese Canadian is the word defines Chinese people live in Canada. There are few types of Chinese Canadian:

1. People immigrate from China, Hong Kong, Macao, and maybe Taiwan.
2. People who was born in Canada.
3. People move from outside China countries, but they are Chinese. For example: Malaysia, Singapore¡Ketc

There are about 1 million Chinese Canadian citizens living in Canada and I am one of them who is call Philip Lee living in Vancouver. I was born here in 1983, so I am 18 right now. I should be referred to second category is Chinese Canadian who were born in Canada. In fact, I am the second generation of Chinese immigrants. My father and mother migrated to Canada more than 20 years ago; they tell me that one of the main reasons that they migrate is because British promised to return Hong Kong to China in 1997. Let me talk something about Chinese History. China has been ruled by the Communist Party extreme ruler at the Chinese Communist party carries out the most dreadful terrorism in the Chinese Culture Revolution. It caused the death of a lot of people. Space precludes me from elaborating more on this issue. Even my father told me a lot about that, and I was born two years later after they migrated. So I think I am a Canadian, but my father always force me to recognize I am Chinese. I really have no idea why he is so concerned the racial identity. We always have argument about my breed. My point is I was born in Canada, so I am a Canadian. I have no idea why he want me to acknowledge I am a Chinese, even I have never been to China. Moreover, he even forces me to speak Chinese at home. As my parents English level is really high¡Xmy father had worked with the Hong Kong government and my mother has worked in an American company. They could both speak and write English very well. Why do they still speak Chinese to me. I have always said: ¡§we are Canadian citizen now, why do we still speak remote and irrelevant language. I always disagree, so I just speak English to them and they speak Chinese to me. Although my father is not happy about that, he still cannot do anything about me. However, the most disgusting thing that he did to me was forcing me to take Chinese course outside the school when I was a child. He even forced me to write an essay to him each month. In fact, I just know some very simple Chinese word. How can he force me to do that. Chinese is the hardest language in the world. For that reason I often failed the Chinese courses. Anyway, If your memory still serves you well, you may still remember my name is Philip Lee, but I have another Chinese name which is call ¡§Lee Gou Cheng§õ°ê±j) My father told me that it means ¡§storng nation.¡¨ And I asked him why he had given me this name. He surprisingly told me that he wanted China to become a storng nation. That is why he changed my name to ¡§strong nation.¡¨ As he wanted my name to mean strong nation. That suck! He actually wanted China, and not Canada to be a strong country. I have no idea why his mind is always related to China, even his English level is as high as mine. I am 5¡¦7 tall and I am not handsome (If 10 is the full mark, I will give 6 to myself). There are two main reasons why I have not had a girlfriend yet. Firstly, I am very demanding in choosing my marriage partner. In addition, I have more interest in Chinese girls than other girls of other races. The second reason is there are too few Chinese girls living in Vancouver, sad -_-

I have one elder sister Carrie Lee and one brother Derek Lee. My elder sister is working in Hong Kong now. She graduated in UBC two years ago. Why did she go back to Hong Kong? It is because her boyfriend is in Hong Kong¡K.. I am so disappointed with her -_-  My brother Derek is in grade 11 now. He is studying in James Mckinney. His human relationship much better than mine. He makes a lot of friends in high school, whether they are male or female. He goes out every weekend to meet friends, and I just stay at home alone. Furthermore his Chinese language ability is much higher than mine. He even knows how to read and write Chinese. And I only can listen. What the¡K.. , I do not understand why his Chinese is better than me. Is that only because he hangs around with Chinese friends and (sign K ¡V sing with the screen) together. That is not fair, every time he speaks Chinese to me, I ask him to speak English. And then, he always says ¡§Come on, Philip. Don¡¦t become a impotent Chinese. As you are a Chinese Canadian you should know how to speak Chinese.¡¨ I always use a string of expletives to answer him. And he will use a string of Chinese expletives in response. That sucks, can you imagine my whole family know English very well, but speak Chinese to me. As my Chinese level is poor. Why can¡¦t they just allow me more leeway. Especially my brother Derek, he was born in Canada, so he should speak English to me. Just like Quebec¡¦s people, more and more people speak English and less and less people speak French. I do not know why my family want to insist on speaking Chinese even they are all Canadian citizens. More ridiculous, my brother always declares himself a Chinese Canadian, not Canadian a term which I disagree with it. Canadian is a Canadian, no matter where they are from! Moreover, English is an major international language. People speak English everywhere in the world. For example, people from Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao, Malaysia, India¡Ketc all know to speak English. So what is the point of learning other language as I am a Canadian and English language is my first language. I have no idea why the federal government forces its citizens to study second language as the requirement of the high school graduate. That is stupid as English is enough for my whole life already!

Surely, I will not take Chinese as my second language. I did choose French for my second language. The main reason is that if you do not have French, you cannot get into any high position in the government. For instance, all the military cotonels need both English and French. Maybe the government does not trust people who do not know English and French. Well, that does not affect me the slightest as I am Canadian.

Even my view is very Canadian. My two best friends Eric and Ken are Chinese. The only word that I can use to describe them is ¡§brat.¡¨ I came to know them in James Mckinney where my brother Derek is studying now. Eric¡¦s height is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and he is a handsome guy (If 10 is the full mark, I will give him 9) The only interest for him is wooing girls. As he always says ¡§a hole is a hole no matter how pig.¡¨ Now, you can realize why I use brat to describe him. Ken is a handsome guy too (about 8, a little bit less than Eric), he is about 5¡¦9¡¨ tall. I do not know what his interest is. His interest maybe studying. He is a hard working person. He never has a girlfriend just like me, but a lot of pretty girls always stay beside him. He seems not to have interest in them, so people start guessing whether he gay or not¡K

Eric and Ken are nice to me, but the only problem that I hate is they only speak Chinese to me. Shit! Chinese again. They know I can listen to Chinese, so they speak Chinese to me. Yes, I can listen, but I hate speaking Chinese, so that¡¦s why I only speak English to them. And they seems doesn¡¦t really care. They like to speak Chinese because of their background. Eric is come from Hong Kong, and lived in Canada about 3 years. His English is not bad as he often wooed Canadian girls with English. His Chinese level is high too as he wooed Chinese girls plus 15 years Chinese Education in Hong Kong. For Ken, he is come from Canton (the southern province in China). His English is good as he study almost everyday, and lived in Canada about 4 years. His Chinese level surely high, as he read those old Chinese books¡XThree countries theory, sui¡¦s law¡K
