John McClain is back and... Well older, and that is about the only thing going for this game. It has been some time since his last outing. It
seems that John's Daughter Lucy has grown up and is following in her dad's
footsteps as a cop. I will not spoil the story for you, but lets just say the family tree of villains is back again and John has to stop them.
Graphics:-
Is it just me or was this game supposed to be developed for the Nintendo 64? The graphics look bland and blocky. Nothing in this game looks good
at all. Even the character movements and talking sequences are either choppy or off sync.
Sound:-
This is the high point of this game. The sound is very well done. Everything from the background music and the “hero time” music is good. The
“Hero Time” music is what really stands out, not because it is good, but because it will make anyone laugh out loud very hard. Especially to
those who watched all the Die Hard films.
Also, this game has a lot of talking; mostly everyone has something to say. Even the cop from the original Die Hard reprises his role to help
John out. I just wish he would have more of a role in this game. Maybe a game based off of him? Nah.
Control:-
This is the worst part of the game. People have said over and over again that the Gamecube was not meant to play FPS (First- Person Shooters).
And except for Metroid Prime, this claim is true. The controls are slow and unresponsive. Even when you adjust the controls, it is still hard
to move around and aim. I found myself being shot at a lot because I could not move my guy.
Game play:-
There are some good elements and some bad ones too. First, the A.I is very dumb. The guards will both never see you and not shoot, or when they
do they hardly ever hit you.
But a cool feature is the “Hero-Time”. When you press the L and Y buttons together after you have achieved enough points from doing good deeds,
you will get a Max Payne style of movement to kill all the bad guys on screen. This is kind of fun, the first 3 or 4 times, but when you do it
more than this, you will only do it for the music. That music never gets old.
Overall:-
Avoid this game. If you really want a FPS for the Gamecube, get Timesplitters 2 or Metroid Prime. But if you really want a Die Hard game, go get
a wife beater, put it on, sit in your favorite chair, put your legs up, and get a few dozen sodas. You are now John McClain, the one from this game.
