Pit Fighter
The Pit Fighter is a slave that was sold into service at a Gladiator camp. Gorneain Gladiatorial games are much more deadly and fierce than the Roman games of human history. The Pit fighter has eaten slept and breathed fighting from a very young age. The training is grueling and just as deadly as the actual fighting, few survive the training to make it to the arena. The ones that do make it are masters of their element, Gorneain Pit fighters are the best in the known land-hands down. If a fighter is successful for a long period of time (a year or two) they are often let go so they don’t harbor all the glory (and thus avoid the jealousy of other trainers). Pit Fighters are masters of many weapons and pick up new ones with ease. Pit fighters must have at least a 16 STR, CON & 14 DEX.
Abilities:
Pit Fighters have 12 (d12) sided dice for hit points and have two hit dice at first level. They gain hit dice for 10 levels and then receive 4hp a level after the 10th. Pit fighters are able to use two one handed melee weapons with no penalty. Pit Fighters have attacks per round as per a fighter 3 levels higher then the level of the Pit Fighter, thus a 4th level Pit fighter has the attack routine of a 7th level fighter. A Pit Fighter character starts with 10 melee weapon proficiencies and gains a new on at levels 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 etc. Pit Fighters have +1 to Hit and +1 to damage with any melee weapon they are proficient with. Pit fighters are adept at healing combat wounds, they are able to heal 1 hp for every two levels of the character. They can use this ability on themselves or others that have received wounds from combat only.
At 3rd level the pit fighter can inflict extra damage equal to their level, this may be done a number of times equal to their level each day.
At 7th level the Pit Fighter can attempt a crushing blow. This blow can be done a number of times equal to their level per day. If they roll a modified score of 21+ they add damage equal to twice their level.
At 11th Level the Pit Fighter can do a whirlwind attack. They are able to double their number of attacks for one melee round. The Pit fighter can do this a number of time equal to his level per day.
None of these special abilities (ones gained at 3rd, 7th, & 11th Level) can be used in conjunction with any of the others.
Drawbacks:
Pit fighters are the best fighters, they have more hits and can dish it out, but they are limited in several respects. Pit fighters can never learn how to use a bow, x bow or similar weapon, it goes against everything they have learned to use missile weapons, they may at a later time learn to use hurled weapons.
Pit Fighters have spent most of their lives training or in a cage: they have no social graces and only a poor understanding of the native tongue. This makes them awkward at best in any social situation-they have the mentality of a slave that like being a slave. All they know how to do is fight, everything else was taken care of for them. This problem often sends the recently released Pit Fighter into culture shock, they lose the ability to function.
