Targeteer

The Targeteer is a sub-class of the fighter that specializes in the use of the crossbow. The Targeteer has eight sided (d8) dice for hit points, fights and saves on the Fighter table. Snipers need the following stats to qualify for the character class: 12 STR, 11 INT, 13 DEX, 13 CON. Targeteers start at first level with proficiency in hand, heavy & light crossbow + 1 additional weapon, usually a melee weapon of some sort; they gain a new weapon proficiency at levels 4, 8, 12, 16 etc. Targeteers have a non-proficiency penalty

of -3.  Targeteers may employ weapons or shields as a fighter does, but they are restricted in the type of armor they can use. Targeteers may only employ chain mail or lighter armor, most usually stick to leather or studded leather so as to not hinder their thieving abilities that they gain at later levels.

Special Abilities:

The Targeteer has the following thief abilities at two levels lower: Open Locks, Find/Remove Traps, Move Silently, Hide in Shadows, Hear Noise, & Climb Walls.

The Targeteer gains additional attacks with crossbows. For every four levels of the Targeteer, the characters attacks per round increase 1 increment with the various forms of crossbow. Thus at level 1-3 = no change, levels 4-7 = Heavy 1/1, Light 3/2, Hand 5/2; levels 8-11= Heavy 3/2, Light 2/1, Hand 3/1; levels 12-15 = Heavy 2/1, Light 5/2, Hand 4/1 etc.

The Targeteer gains + 10 to all ranges with crossbows for each level of experience the Targeteer possesses. This ability will enable the Targeteer to have longer short and medium ranges and actually extend the long range beyond the normal capabilities of the weapon.

A Targeteer may make a “targeted attack” instead of their normal attack. If the Targeteer chooses to make a targeted attack it is the only action that they may take for the round, as they are concentrating on striking a deadly blow upon an opponent. The Targeteer gains a +3 to hit their target and gains an increased chance of scoring a critical hit. At levels 1-4 the Targeteer can score a critical hit with a targeted attack on a natural roll of a 19 or 20; at levels 5-8 on a natural roll of 18, 19 & 20; at levels 9 and up on a natural roll of 17, 18, 19, & 20. In addition to this, if a critical hit is scored the Targeteer can modify the location on the chart by 3% per level, up to a maximum of 50% (17th level)  The Drawback is that the Targeteer has to remain still while making a targeted attack, they have no Dexterity bonus for AC and receive an additional -2 to their AC for the duration of the round in which the targeted attack was made.

Targeteers Gain Hit Dice up through to 10th level and then gain 2 hp for every level after the 10th. Targeteers go up in experience levels as per the Ranger character class in the Players Handbook.
