LockJaw
The LockJaw was designed my a long forgotten race of mechanically
inclined underground creatures to protect their lairs. The race of beings have
long sense died off but on rare occasions a LockJaw will still be operable in
their long-forgotten lairs.
LockJaws can come in several shapes and sizes, often imitating a creature
or animal in it’s appearance. The LockJaw is crafted of the finest metals and
are often covered with intricate carvings and designs-a masterful work of
mechanical ingenuity and artistic skill. Being constructed of metal, it is quite
heavy, taking several strong creatures to lift it.
Beyond the LockJaw’s decorative exterior if a alert
sentry and fierce killing machine. Most LockJaws have several attacks to employ
each round of combat. Most will have claw attacks equal to swords and a
tail-whip equivalent to a large flail. The LockJaws most fearsome attack is a
large set of hardened metal jaws. The Jaws attack as a large pick, easily
piercing armor. If the LockJaw makes a critical hit then it’s jaws lock upon
an opponent, subsequent attacks with the jaws will strike automatically,
inflicting double damage.
In addition to the LockJaws impressive retinue of
attacks, it has excellent armor-most weapons will do reduced damage. Edged
weapons do ½ normal damage rounding down. Piercing weapons do ¼ damage rounded
down. Blunt weapons will inflict normal damage. Even if damaged, the LockJaw can
absorb as much damage as two giants before being disabled.
Perceptive opponents can notice “weak points” in
the LockJaw’s armor and joints. Characters can target these locations at a
penalty decided by the GM. If a successful hit is struck, the LockJaw is -1 to
strike, the effects are cumulative.
The LockJaw is a machine and has some small magic’s
involved in it’s functioning. It has no “mind” nor does it feel pain or
fear. It will attack until destroyed.
