Belly of the Sun
The Belly of the Sun is a terrible creature that normally
resides in the elemental plane of fire. Through a very costly and long ritual, a
mage or summoner can bring the creature forth to do their bidding. Precautions
must be made to ensure the safety of the summoner or the belly of the Sun will
slay the summoner and return home. If the Summoner is protected, the Belly of
the Sun will perform one task for the summoner. If the task cannot be completed
in 101 days, the Belly of the Sun will return home. The Belly of the Sun is a
massive elemental king or prince in it's own lands. The creature is of towering
stature, truly awesome to behold. The Belly of the Sun is incredibly hot, it
will easily melt anything that it passes over and ignite all flammable materials
within 100 ft of the creature. Any living creature that is within 100 ft of the
Belly of the Sun will suffer damage as if they were in a fire. Any creature that
is within 20 ft of the Belly of the Sun will spontaneously combust into flames.
Normally the Belly of the Sun is summoned to do a task. If the summoner is slain
or their protective circle broken the belly of the Sun will cease it's mission.
If the summoner is slain, the Belly of the Sun will return immediately back to
it's own plane. If the summoner is no longer protected, the Belly of the Sun
will take the quickest route to the summoner and slay him/her. The creature is
intelligent and is aware of it's ability to be destructive. If for some reason
the Belly of the Sun is present while not being summoned, it can be friendly and
reasonable. While it has no outward hatred of other creatures, it considers them
weak and can at times find it amusing to set them on fire.
Battle tactics:
The Belly of the Sun is no great tactician, they don't need
to be. Due to the massive amount of
heat it generates, normal missile weapons will burn up before they reach their
intended target. Arrows, spears, javelins etc. will be consumed in the fire of
the belly of the Sun's body before they can inflict any harm. Only large
missiles made of stone will have any chance of doing any damage. Giant hurled
boulders or missiles launched from a catapult or trebuchet will not burn up on
impact. The damage they inflict will be minimal, about 1/2 normal. When they do
strike it will cause a "flair" to shower flame around the creature,
this will inflict additional damage to those around the Belly of the Sun, not
including the regular damage caused from it's aura. If something is able to get
into melee range, their weapons will melt on impact-inflicting no damage. Only
magical weapons have a chance of surviving to inflict harm on the belly of the
Sun. Even magical weapons will have to check each round to see if they are
destroyed. As one might of guess, fire based or heat based attacks do nothing to
this creature. Water, in large enough quantity can harm this creature. A heavy
rain will reduce it's strength to 1/2 normal. It can be destroyed by a flood or
tidal wave. A blizzard will slow the creature down and reduce it to 3/4
strength. The belly of the Sun is intelligent and will lash out at anything that
is producing these damaging effects. Generally the belly of the Sun will wade
into the largest body of the enemy and let it's heat generation burn everything
up. If castles or other fortifications exist, it will target them first. If need
be, the Belly of the Sun will smash things with it's massive fists. The Belly of
the Sun like to destroy thing and watch all the little creatures run about on
fire.
Habitat:
This creature normally resides in the elemental plane of fire. it has no home
anywhere else.
Ecology:
The Belly of the Sun are important members of society in the
elemental plane of fire. They are the heavy hitters in battle and are often used as shock troops. In times of peace they are
considered royalty and have positions of power and influence over their realm.
If they are summoned away, they have several lower elemental creatures to run
their kingdoms in their stead. If a Belly of the Sun is destroyed, their title
and lands are held for a replacement. There are a set number of these creatures,
this number is created and controlled by the elemental king himself-he makes
these creatures to act as his lords. Very few creatures in the elemental plane
of fire are above a belly of the Sun in stature. Unless destroyed, these
creatures can live forever.
Description:
The Belly of the Sun is a massive creature, usually 100 ft in height.
They are roughly humanoid in appearance with "muscular" builds and
heads that look like the sun with a face upon it. All around it, flames lick
about igniting everything in it's path.
