Tiger Driver…91~! : BT’s Weekly fWo Rant
Howdy.
I’m Trevor “BroncoTurtle” Pierce, a columnist for the fWo. (No, I can’t get you in). The fWo is an e-fed, another form of wrestling gaming that focuses more on storyline and character development, rather than just in ring action. Handlers create their own wrestlers, cut promos, write angles, and feud with each other, a system which career modes in games like Smackdown are emulating. This column is specifically about the fWo, but to check out other e-feds, go to http://ewcenter.slike.com, With that out of the way, let’s get to it:
Dead Weight: On Wednesday, Chris Finn announced the teams for Meltdown, the annual tag team battle royal. Looking through the competitors, it’s obvious that the fWo roster has gotten very thin as of late. Even with the additions of Ruben Ross and some TW talent, the fWo has had to resort to adding Cactus Jack (the fWo used to include a few WWF wrestlers as guest stars on their shows, personally I think it’s a bush league tactic), and relatively abandoned wrestlers such as Frank Snow and the Dark Ninja. With so many wrestlers “temporarily retired” and a waiting list that’s over a thousand people long, I think it’s time that the fWo cut some of the inactive wrestlers permanently and gave some more newcomers opportunities to compete. With Warfare off the air now, perhaps there’s now time to initiate some kind of House Show system or something of that nature to gradually give new talent a chance at the big time.
Mitch Wilson: The man’s been on a roll for the past few months, and has given more cred to the INET belt then anyone else I can remember. His moveset’s varied enough that he consistently puts on entertaining matches, regardless of the booker (matchwriter). I know that Mitch, PT, and another wrestler have some big plans for later this year, and it should be the angle that puts him over the top and into the main event. I’m guessing for a Wilson/Bear main event for CS2K1, with Wretch/Frenchie as the semi-main.
Wretchster: I’m as big a Team Rateings there is, but the Hogan gimmick’s run it’s course. It’s nowhere near as funny as Wretch just being Wretch (“Yeah, they’d be SUPER POLICE!”) and Hogan hasn’t even been on TV for months. I really hope we get the old Wretch back soon.
Cruiserweight Division: With a slew of new Cruisers coming into the fed, specifically Ruben Ross, the division should be picking up pretty soon. I’m hoping for someone to step up and have a long series of title defenses, allowing the belt to get some meaning again and introducing new lucha talent through matches rather than promos. Now if only the WWF would do this too.
Heel Shortage: Though the return of Austin “Dead” Davis and Strangler’s turn should help, there are very few top-tier heels right now. Eron hasn’t been particularly evil lately, Wilson’s not “bad” just cocky and a damn good wrestler, and Rain’s kind of directionless as of late. Primetime’s trying his best, but right now he’s spread out in feuds with pretty much everyone. Here’s hoping another flat-out jackass comes back like Neo to give us someone to hate.
That’s pretty much it for now, I’ll be back in a week with another, (and hopefully better) edition of the column. Until then.
