Banjo-Tooie Hints & Tips

Hidden Items

The mystery of the three hidden items in Banjo-Kazooie is at last revealed - well, apart from how to 'officially' access them in the original game, that is. But you can get your hands on the two special eggs, and the ice key, in the sequel - here's how!

Special Egg 1: To get this egg, you need to know the Grip Grab move, learned in the first level. Climb to the top of Spiral Mountain and use the Fly Pad to take off. Fly to the top of the waterfall, and enter the cave. Swim along the stream, and jump onto the ledge on the left. Grab onto the ledge just behind the waterfall, shimmy along and climb into the opening. Follow the tunnel until you come to the 'Banjo-Kazooie Game Pak' - just attack it to get the egg.

Special Egg 2: Use the Fly Pad at the top of Spiral Mountain again, but this time land on the ledge beside the metal grating with a crack in it. Fire a grenade egg at the metal grating. It will explode, and you can get the other special egg from the Game Pak.

To use the eggs, go to the Wooded Hollow area. Just opposite the entrance to Mayahem Temple, there is a path which goes down a steep hill and ends in a clearing with a giant egg in the middle. Enter the egg, and Banjo will automatically place your special eggs in the nests, for Heggy Hen to hatch. Egg 1 contains the ability to use homing eggs; Egg 2 allows you to use the Breegull Bash attack by double-tapping B.

Ice Key: When you enter Jinjo Village from Spiral Mountain, there is a sandy hill opposite where you entered. Grab the ledge you can see above the rocks on the left, and shimmy along it until you reach an icy cave. In the cave is another Game Pak, this time holding the Ice Key.

To use the Ice Key, go to Glitter Gulch Mine once you have the Talon Torpedo move from Jolly Roger's Bay. Go through the door which you opened by stepping on the switch near the start of the level and then using the Turbo Talon Trot to reach. Jump down the waterfall, and use the Talon Torpedo to open the Kazooie Boulder in the pool below. Down the tunnel is a giant Ice Door, which the Ice Key opens. Inside is the Mega-Glowbo, which you can give to Humba Wumba in her wigwam near the entrance to Witchyworld. It transforms Kazooie into a dragon who can breathe fire with the B button.
