Introduction

We bought an all in one system in 1996 and it wasn't too impressive now, but at the time it was average. With a Pentium processor SOYO motherboard 8Mb RAM and a 1 Gb hard drive, so you can safely laugh at the tiny spec. In 1999 we had it upgraded by a bloke we knew, he replaced the motherboard RAM, modem and installed an extra hard drive. Since July we were happy with this 350 AMD K6-2 based PC, but the prospect of upgrade encouraged us to sell the tower to be replaced  by a power tower.

What we wanted

With upgrading we thought about upgradablility were we could add faster processors and graphics cards to the system. We thought a Duron would be great a 600 for now and Socket A means that we could add a Athlon to the motherboard. An AGP slot would help too in graphics, and a nice easy 'jumper free' motherboard. Tool free cases were cheap and well built. Hard drives and RAM weren't so important yet, but we'll need them in future. Plus we needed a Sound card and modem too, we sold the modem from the last one.
