Ralph's Game Log for March 2004 | Minutes | ||

6 Nimmt | BGoR:
Money was the theme for the night and plenty of those games were
brought and played. First, we started with one of our favorite
fillers, "6 Nimmt!". Yeah not a money game but it could handle
seven while we waited for others to arrive. I quickly went over the
rules for Brad since this was his first play. We only got to play
two hands since we had reach critical mass. Tin had the low score.

Modern Art | BGoR:
Tin, Nate, Omar, Brad and I played a very strange game of "Modern
Art" while that other players started a game of Merchants of
Amsterdam. What was weird? I don't think I've played a game in
which Lite Metal and Krypto appeared only in the last round.
Omar's wacky approach to the game caught the experienced players off
guard. His goofy approach of selling paintings below value and
buying paintings above value somehow snagged him the game.
Wish I could do that with my stocks.

High Society | BGoR:
Brad requested "High Society", a game that hasn't hit the table for
quite a while. Nate got the thief insurance card, the "1" card
early, Brad picked up the "2" and I scored the "8". That was
followed by a run on red cards. Nate had a 2x'er for his "1", Brad
got stuck with a IRS card so he had to get the other 2x'er to cancel
it out. I still had the lead with an "8", so I held back on
bidding. When the ten card was flipped up, I outbidded everyone for
it but I was down to a paltry 13 mil. Luckily for me, Omar's vanity
wouldn't allow him to take the Casino card (-5), choosing to give up
his final card not to take it (guaranteed him last too).
Brad had to gobble it up and the next card ended the game. I beat
Nate by one point.

Money! | BGoR:
Played two hands of "Money!" Brad and I had the highs and lows in
the scoring but it was Tin with his consistent "collect a set" that
won.

Tongiaki | BGoR:
Started a game of Tongiaki, again with too many people. I really
think this game is broken with six and maybe even with five.
This time I got to go first which meant I had plenty of opportunity
to place tiles and move pieces (fun factor high). Bruce and Chris
where on the short end of the fun factor and Chris was really not
happy with the game. Similar to my reaction last week. Bruce ruled
the seas and islands, again!

Tongiaki | BGoR:
Jarred, Tin, Nate and I gave Tongiaki another play. Right off the
bat the play felt better. Tin exploded once again, littering the
islands with his green slime. I started the cutthroat action by
sailing three of ships and one of mine into the deep blue.
The sacrifice was acceptable, I can't let anyone win three plays in
a row. Once the precedence was set the game become really
entertaining. Jarred lucked out and was able to make two islands
Royal. The interesting side effect was that some of the neighboring
islands to the Royals become static, not sure why? Jared's Royal
were the winning difference in the game, the red horde must be sunk
next time.
