Equipment: Power Ring - A ring that can create solid-light creations,
power comes from Oan Energy, but unlike previous rings Kyle's has no time-limit
and has no weakness over yellow, making it the ultimate power-ring. The ring
doesn't have an infinite charge though, the ring hold's it's charge like a fuel
tank. When the ring's charge gets low, Kyle needs more will and concentration
to create images and maintain them. Luckily for Kyle he can judge when his ring
needs recharging and usually able to recharge it before it is empty.
Power Battery - The battery from which Kyle's ring draws it's energy
from. The battery was actually formed from a chuck of OA, and has a direct feed
from the energy at the centre of the universe (originally from the planet OA,
which was later destroyed by Kyle to defeat Parallax in their battle after Zero
Hour (GL #0))
History:
After the destruction of Coast City by the Cyborg impersonating Superman, Hal
Jordan (Green Lantern II) went mad and destoryed the entire GL Corps and the
Guardians of the Universe, absorbing all the power from the main power battery
for himself. Fortunately, one of the Guardians (by the name of Gathet) survived
and was able to make one more power ring, removing all previous limitations
in the process. Ganthet then travelled to Earth, knowing that all the greatest
GL (including Hal) have come from there, and picked a person at random. That
person was Kyle Rayner, who had just stepped out from a nightclub for a bit
of fresh air. To insure that the ring would not be used in the wrong hands,
the ring genetically encoded itself to Kyle's DNA. In the year that Kyle has
had the ring, he has achived many impossible goals and has even joined the elite
superheroes in the JLA (Justice League of America). But for all the ups, Kyle's
gone through some pretty rough downs, including the murder of his long-time
girlfriend Alex, and his breakup from Donna Troy. Still considered the rookie,
he has earned the respect and friendship of some of the most powerful and popular
characters in the DC Universe, including Superman and Martian Manhunter. He
has even teamed up with other next generation heroes, Green Arrow (Connor Hawke)
and Flash (Wally West) on occasion, and the three remain good friends.
Recent Developements: Lately, Kyle has gone into space the restart the GL Corps,
leaving Jade as the Green Lantern of Earth (GL#110).
This recruitment drive ended in disaster. After this Kyle decided to retreive
and destroy the rings, knowing that Jade will still have her ring and he can
create more from that. He returned just in time to stop Fatality from killing
both Jade (whose ring had just ran out of energy) but also John Stewert, who
was at dinner with Jade and his girlfriend Merayn at the time (GL#111).
After the battle it was beleived Fatality was killed and the ring destroyed
with her, but the ring was found by none other then Anarky(GL#112,
Anarky#1). After battling the reality altering creature Abberation, the ring
disappeared yet again and it suspected to be finally destroyed. Also Kyle as
recently admitted to having some feelings still towards Donna Troy, especially
after she shown up during his art show, and this has lead Kyle and Jade to brake
up and Jade to move out of his apartment(GL#118, GL#119, GL Secret Files #2).
Recently Kyle has been suffering from mass delusions, that are being sent and
controlled by The Controllers, the genetic cousins of The Gaurdians Of The Universe.
This has lead Kyle into space to confront the Controllers, who want to make
him into part of their Effigy corps. He managed to ruin their plans and the
experience has helped Kyle grow in willpower, and has even learned to control
and recall his ring when seperated with it.
