They said they'd be there,

So to that place I went,

The storm rolled in from the east,

I could feel something coming fast,

A beast, not of any earthly nature,

Too great and fantastic to be real,

As I whirled around it was already upon me,

Its claws pierced through my flesh,

The he arrived and shot the beast with a silver arrow,

The rain began to fall as the beast fled,

He helped me to my feet, "You're still late,"

Before we had time to relax the beast called out,

Soon after three other cries responded,

"Here they come," I said while drawing my sword,

We heard the crunching of the leaves beneath their feet,

They stopped righ at the line between the woods and the clearing,

The largest one now with a scarlet side snarled at the sight of my blade,

My ally firmed his grip and uttered, "Johnath isn't coming,"

"Great," I said under my breath as the leader charged,

I dodged as the monster tried to pin me to the ground and struck it,

The creature, once fierce, fell and remained still, its life spent,

The stillness of their leader sparked a rage in the others,

My comrade felled the fastest as he ran to meet it,

The second fastest I pierced in the side,

The last turned and ran, seeing the blood of his kin upon our blades,

"We're alone again," I said breathlessly,

My comrade, my brother smiled and replied, "That we are."
