Day's First Light

At day's first light the picture appears,
The freshly fallen snow is the lead role,
As the sun strikes the millions of snowflakes it happens,
Each flake glimmers like a diamond,
A million icy gems more priceless to me than any stone or ring,
I find it calling me by name and drawing me out,
That softness and silence of a snowy day,
Those icy gems are formed into snow angels and Frostys,
Yet some evade the snowball fights and frolicking,
Those icy gems, shining like nothing else that I cherish,
So dear to this old heart,
Renews in me a time from the past,
A time without worry of what will come,
Thus, God's calming gift to you and I.
