Palikane

The gasp of air preceeds ducking under the wet rolling hill,
The gasp of air preceeds the wild ride I catch,
Out of nowhere it seems another appears in the outer set,
Two boards now occupy the early morning's surf,
I try not to pay notice of this other rider,
Yet upon one ride I can't ignore her any longer,
She had perfect form,
Made the wave look like a mere participant,
Only us two out there and all is quiet,
She returns from her wave and our eyes meet,
Eyes that resemble the tropical blue waters we share,
I hear her whisper her name, Palikane,
A smile breaks across both our faces,
The next big one is moving in and we both know it,
I put some distance between us respectively,
Ain't no way I'm letting this one go...
It crests and we're both on-board,
She looks back and winks while I nearly fall off,
I'm showing off and the result is an aerial board with no rider,
Like a piece of wreckage I bob up to the surface,
She laughs and paddles next to me as I reboard,
No need for words out here, just shared smiles and shared experience,
Looks like it'll be a great morning after all...
