Road Trip

The roads just go on and on,

Like the seas of long ago,

We keep going blindly towards where the sun sets,

Leaving behind snow and cold,

For warmer weather, a new change for some and home for others,

The stark mountains all around us,

The deserts that we go past,

Those truck stops we choose to go into and brave their bathrooms,

We all have one goal, one plan,

Get us to California and get us there fast,

They come for things different to what they consider normal,

I come to see those I left behind, to reflect back on the past,

They come for the lure of beaches and burgers,

I come for the chance to rekindle relations with friends,

We as a whole come to get as far from college as possible,

Yet we understand that it’s only temporary,

Maybe one day they will see San Diego the way I see it,

Maybe...
