She sits down next to me without hesitation,
I smile and she smiles back,
She still indicates how old she is on her hands,
One whole hand plus one index finger proudly displayed,
The volley of questions then begin before the show,
How old are you? (Wow, that's old!)
Where were you born? (I was born in Hawaii)
Are you married? (My Dad is)
How'd the dinosaurs die? (I think a volcano did it)
The questions halt with a loud firework,
"Wow, that was loud, huh?"
When did I lose that zeal for knowledge?
Or maybe...when did people tell me not to ask so many questions?
What's your favorite color? (Mine's pink)
What's your favorite animal? (We just got some cats)
The show is over but the questions are not,
She apologizes at the end,
I hug her and tell her to always be inquisitive,
Questioning minds are the only hope for a better tomorrow.
