RIP Yee Cheng(D56)

He came, he left. While he was here, he served mankind, he served Gaoyiren. We lost a great friend, a remarkable Gaoyiren.

On 22/1/2001 at 0:25AM while I was on my way to Penang for Chinese New Year. Yuen(M55) phoned me regarding this sad news. At noon, I picked up Yuen at Taiping, later we were transfered to Oh(D65)'s car at Seremban. It was almost 8:00PM when we reached Yee Cheng's house in Keluang where we met Koh(M56) and Tee(P56).
At noon 23/1/2001, we paid our last respect to him, subsequently he was laid to rest at Muar cemetery.
He has been suffering from CAD, had by-pass surgery done in 1987. He collaspsed while attending a dinner function and passed away peacefully.
I came to know Yee Cheng in the summer of 1968, on my very first day in Kaohsiung as a freshman. He orientated me and soon we became good friends.I attended his engagement ceremony, his wedding party and now his funeral rite.
For years he has been a influential figure in Keluang, holding variuos prominent positions in the local Chinese society. For Gaoyiren, he has contributed enormously. Without him, there is no website, no address directory; without him, we wouldn't have our Kaohsiung tour. Just a week before he left, he contacted Ministry of Health regarding dental registration......... His everlasting spirit to serve needs to be passed on to the younger Gaoyiren as we still have a long way to go. Yee Cheng will always be remembered.
