Episodes 29 & 30: Day of Reckoning

Introducing: Boliver Trask, the Sentinels, Pyro, Colossus, Gambit

The Gist of It: The episode opens with a scene of Wolverine running around the sewers looking for Sabretooth or the Ninja Turtles or something. Anyway, some guys in dorky uniforms and flashy equipment track him saying things like "A mutant! Let us follow!" And so, they watch Wolverine in his natural habitat as he chases Sabretooth around, and then the two eventually fight, as they always do. This time, however, a big metal grate steps in and separates them. Sabes is all "AHhaha!" and escapes as the Grate o' Doom wraps around Wolverine, who angrily slashes it apart. Anywho, the dorky guys hop in and this floating ball shoots Wolvie with this green goo that freezes him in his place. It is then that... a man who looks kinda like Vincent Price (depending on the lighting ;P) pops out of the ball and is all... well, he says something that I don't remember. Anyway, the guy's Boliver Trask, and he's not nice.

Cut to, Jean using Cerebro. She can't find Logan anywhere, as he popped off the map-- well, not literally, but... yeah, you know. Professor X gets all bitchy and mean, as he is apt to do in this episode, but then calms down because he seems to be bipolar now. Anyway, he sends Beast and Storm to check out the scene where Logan last was, and so they go to the sewers and find the bent up grate. Exciting!! And then... an owl hears them and flies off hooting! Even more exciting!!!

And so, we get to see the owl fly into the BH home (via Mystique's blown up room which seems to now be lacking walls), where it transforms into-- okay, prepare yourselves for a big shocker!-- Mystique! Whoa! Plot twist! Er, hehe, anyway, we see the BH boys being all cute and silly (Pietro cheating at cards, Lance making pizza fall on Freddy's head by... shaking it off of the ceiling, and Todd flipping through all the channels of the TV saying things like "Seen it, hate it, etc" XD) and normal. Then Mystique comes downstairs and tells them they have to make their move because Magneto kidnapped Wolverine (which he didn't, as we all, know, but hey! What're you gonna do about it? :D). And then we see Wanda. That has no real significance to the episode, but we see her nonetheless :D

Okay, back to the Institute. We see some of the X-Men/New Mutants sitting outside of the Danger Room with paint on them, and they're all "Damn, we sucked!" because... the Danger Room kicked their collective asses. The remaining X-Men (plus Amara) are inside playing... X-TREME PAINTBALL!!!! No, not really... It's more like a Magneto simulation with... paintball... Yeah, anyway, Scott's like "Let's rush him!" and so they attempt to rush Magneto, but Evan blunders up and the Magneto-Sim blows up (Hoohooheehee! Okay, that's Sim-speak...). And so, Professor X, being the bipolar bastard that he is in this ep, gets really mad and chews the X-Men out for sucking so much. He especially picks on Scott, and tells the New Mutants that they'll jeopordize the mission. And then he calls in the "reinforcements", which happens to be the BH. Whee!! Anywho, Scott gets mad (as he should, since X was being an ass), tells Lance he can be leader, and storms off. X lets him leave, and... yeah. The X-Dorks all whine about how much the BH sucks and they shouldn't team up, but oh well, there's nothing they can do about it!

Anyway, now we cut to the Truck o' Doom, which has Wolvie in it. It stops at some mysterious place, and some guys pull him out. He wakes up quite disgruntled, and begins to wreak some havoc, only to be stopped by Trask making his restrains shock him. They take Wolverine inside of the Secret Headquarters o' Doom, and Trask talks about how he's going to level the playing field between mutants and humans with... the Sentinels! I don't know if he calls them that by this point, but it's very obviously the Sentinels, looking more high tech and less lame than they did in the old cartoon.

Back at the Institute, Jean finds Wolverine's mutant sig with Cerebro, and so the X-Geeks/Brotherhood all get in the Blackbird and prepare to go. Before they leave, Mystique presses some buttons on one of their high tech computer machines, and sets the mansion on Def-Con 4 AGAIN (er... see "Fun and Games"). And then... the X-Geeks all leave, while the New Mutants are stuck inside of the house quite oblivious... well, all except for Amara. As the Institute seals itself up, she manages to escape while Sammy... flies into the wall and hurts himself... It is then that Tabby shows up (in Lance's jeep >.>) and helps Amara escape. They drive off to Scott, who's being Mr. Lonely and hanging around that place that he was hanging around with Jean in "Fun and Games" (hmm! A pattern!) They tell him about what's happening at the Institute, and he runs off to save the day (uh, with them, as it would be sad if he tried to do that alone).

And then there's another scene of Wolverine at the Bad Place That Needs A Name. Trask is all "Mwahahaaa! Time to test out... the SENTINELS!" And so Wolverine fights a Sentinel-- I guess it's the only one at the moment, since later they send the same one and only one to fight the X-Hood (well it's that or I call them the Brothermen :P)-- and it pretty much kicks his ass, which is kinda sad since they seemed so much easier to kill in the old cartoon (unless you're Morph O.o;)

Anyway, Scott and Co. go to help out the New Mutants, but first they must... get in! So they go to the waterfall area, since it's the only entrance not blocked off. Meanwhile, inside, Sammy goes WHAM! and he and Bobby try to save their asses. And then the Institute decides that it'll self-destruct in ten minutes.

Back at the Evil Bad Place HQ, several familiar floating silver balls land outside. We then get to have some very fun intros of... The Acolytes! (Okay, they're not really the Acolytes, but I have no idea what to call them, and since Colossus was an Acolyte and Pyro had affiliated himself with them once, that's what I'm going to call them for now) Anyway, Sabretooth comes out looking pretty cool, we see some familiar cards and then Gambit standing looking kinda lame (I'm sorry, even if I still loved Gambit, I'd think he looked lame here), then there's a fiery creature that's coming from PYRO!! (er, not that I'm excited or anything!), and we see Colossus metalifying himself.

Meanwhile, INSIDE of the Evil Bad Place HQ, the Sentinel is about to kill Wolverine... And we cut to credits.

Then the show comes back, thanks to the "Super Stuffed Saturday" thing that the WB is doing (thank God, since I'd go insane if I had to wait another week to see the end >.>). The Sentinel shuts down before it kills Wolverine, and some generic scientist guys rush in to check out... statistics and stuff.

At the mansion, Bobby saves a confused Jubilee, and then he and Berzerker do some stuff. Bobby decides to be assertive, since he's kinda like the leader of the New Mutants, and so he makes a plan and they rush off to do said plan. Meanwhile, Scott and Co. break in to save the day.

Okay. Back at Trask's HQ, the other X-Dorks find the Magneto Balls (that sounds... wrong...), and so they search for him. All the while, Pietro has this suspicious smirk. Yeah. Anyway, the action begins when a card floats down (ala Gambit) and goes boom. The X-Geeks scatter, Lance is all "Yes! Action!" and Pietro says something along the lines of "You have no idea" and scampers off like an evil little bastard, which causes the ever watchful Wanda to call out that it's a trap. Well, she's kinda late, since... yeah, the battle already started ;P

And so, metal things fly around, the Acolytes are revealed to the X-Dorks in a very nifty scene involving lots of Pyroflame! Anywho, Sabes and Pyro looked ubercool in this part (well, I think so XD), and Gambit and Colossus were... eh, okay. And this is when a big fight scene ensues that goes on for like, the entire episode, so I'm gonna try to make this brief. Pyro, being his usual ass kickin' self, does... cool things with fire, only to be stopped by Storm (man, the poor guy is almost ALWAYS thwarted by Storm in everything O.o). Sabretooth and Beast duke it out, and Wanda looks around for Magneto and doesn't do much.

Back at the Institute, Berzerker says something lame and is about to blow up the computer that's doing the "Def-Con 4/Self Destruct" thing, but is stopped by Scott who saves the day by... taking the New Mutants and running off right as the Mansion explodes.

Meanwhile, Wolverine's being observed by scientists, and are interrupted when one of the generic soldier men see the fighting that's going on outside.

Outside, Rogue creeps around and runs into Gambit. The two have a little moment, probably to appease the 5 billion Remy/Rogue fans, but he quickly ruins it by handing her a kinetically charged card and running off. Rogue, coming to her senses, tosses the card away before it goes boom. While she's doing that, Colossus is throwing things at Toad and grunting and roaring in a manner much akin to our pal Freddy. Anyway, the Toad avoids it and says some spiffy things, before jumping at Colossus and... whamming into the Russian's big metal chest. But never fear, for Freddy comes to save the day! Oh, and Todd gets thrown somewhere in a comical manner O.o

Anyway, Freddy knocks Colossus away, Kitty phases him into a building, which Lance promptly knocks down with his crazy powers. Poor Colossus... Oh, and there's more Sabretooth vs Beast action going on. While the fighting's happening, Wanda sees Magneto (and Pietro), has a brief flashback of being taken away to the asylum, and makes things around her go nutty as she goes over to give Mags a piece of her mind-- er... sorta. Yeah, and Storm follows and tells the X-Geeks that Magneto's around.

Magneto doesn't care about the X-Dorks at the moment, however, and shakes the ground to make them all fall down inside of the Secret Lab of Doom. Trask sends the Sentinel out, and Magneto rises the X-Men and the Sentinel up and into the city for all to see. A news guy in a helicopter sees the action going on and films it. So, while the fight scene's going on, there's amusing little clips of random people watching the news looking very surprised as they see that their friends are spandex clad mutants (well, we see Principal Kelly, funny looking Duncan, Amanda, Taryn, and an amusing Paul).

And there's a big fight scene in which nothing really significant happens other than the fact that Beast, Evan, Blob, and Rogue are taken out with the goo that froze Wolverine in the beginning. Up where Magneto is, Wanda appears and kicks Pietro's ass before kicking Magneto's with a Hex Bolt. The Sentinel sees Maggy and targets him, which kinda sucks since Maggy can't really defend himself at the moment... And so, Professor X comes and shoots it in his helicopter, and is then Hex Bolted. Maggy, free for the moment, blows up the Sentinel which... lands on him, it appears. Wanda falls down and is plummeting to her death, but is then saved by Kurt. Professor X tells the X-Men to leave the others behind, and so the "survivors" go back to the Institute, to find it totally decimated.

Scott and the New Mutants come out looking like hell and are like "We went into Cerebro's room and it held up enough for us to survive!" Yesss.. Half-Naked Scott saves the day! Of course, he's seriously pissed off now and goes after Professor X, telling him that everything was his fault and he was the one who set the Institute to explode, and then knocks him outta his chair. X chuckles and turns into Mystique and says something like "Yes, and things are about to get a lot worse". Oh, and Lance and Todd make some evil faces O.o

Fun ending.

Brotherhood Moments: Well, besides the cute scene in the first half where they're relaxing at home, there's nothing significant that the Brotherhood does. I mean, they just... fight... the entire episode, really. Lance says a few cocky things, Pietro's an evil backstabbing bitch (well, he has every right to be, really, since Magneto's his father, so naturally he'd side with him. It just sucks that he betrayed the BH >.<), all of Todd's scenes are really cute, and Freddy's just plain cool. Also, Wanda doesn't do much of anything until the end, where she proceeds to kick ass. Oh! And there's Pyro! I'm counting him as BH because... uh... he's generally affiliated with the BH more than the Acolytes, so yes. PYRO!! He was the ass-kickitiest part of the episode!!! Oh, and the total lack of Lance/Kitty pleased me, too.

My Opinion: I know I SHOULD be all "!!!!!!!" about this episode since, well, it features all of my (current) favorite characters from the comics (except for Cortez, but that's okay since he'd be so pointless in this ep) and is basically a huge climax for the show, but for some reason I'm not O.o I think it's because pure action episodes never really make me excited. Hmm... I was seriously ready to hate Professor X during the first half of the ep, but then towards the end I was all "Wait, he's just TOO OOC, ditching the others. There's gotta be a catch!" and indeed there was. I don't know why, but I really wasn't expecting him to be Mystique, though now it all DOES make sense. I mean, obviously Mystique can't use Cerebro, so Jean had to do it and... yeah. Still, this WAS an enjoyable episode! I can honestly say that my favorite scenes were the "Acolyte" ones-- yes, even the Gambit scene with Rogue. While I don't like the pairing (well, I like the pairing itself, I just hate hearing about it all the time >.>), it was an okay scene. But, Pyro was definitely the best thing in the ep.

Ahhh, Pyro... When I first saw him in the screencaps, I didn't like his design too much, but after watching the ep... I LOVE EvoPyro!! Sure, he didn't say anything (which sucked... I wanted some cheezy Pyro witticism!), but the scene with him and Sabretooth (and Colossus and Gambit, though they didn't look as cool) coming out to fight the X-Men was just AWESOME LOOKING!!!! I love it!! That little part where they don't do anything but stand there with the fire going around was just so damn cool!

And while I'm being an incoherent babbling idiot, I guess I'll go on about the Acolytes some more XD As much as I adore Colossus, something was off about him O.o I guess I just didn't like the way they portrayed him as... a metal Freddy. And Gambit just looked kinda lame... I guess I'm so used to "Scruffy Man in Trenchcoat!" that he just didn't look right to me O.o

Uhh... yeah. Anyway, I can't think of anything else to say at the moment. Oh! The Scott parts were really cool! Especially when he knocked Mystique/X out of the chair and confronted her. And Boom Boom didn't annoy me at all today... which is odd. I didn't even go "ARGH!" when she came on screen O.o;;

Rating (out of 5): 4. I just didn't feel much for this episode. Except for the cool Pyro-flame scenes XD

BH Babble: Coming later (uhh when the Wanda contest is over O.o)
