Lingered Light

Sun rising high
Clouds come near
Once there the beauty’s gone
It’s faded.

We try to come,
Yet we always go.
There’s no way to fix things,
We’re gone.

Beams reach out
Waters rise to meet
But fizzle with the heat
It’s overbearing.

We try to come,
Yet we always go.
There’s no way to fix things,
We’re gone.

Light bounces toward
Petals widen to receive
Empty-handed flowers die
It’s unfulfilling.

We try to come,
Yet we always go.
There’s no way to fix things,
We’re gone.

Sun gives light
We try to absorb
Sponges shrivel
It’s an illusion.

We try to come,
Yet we always go.
There’s no way to fix things,
We’re gone.

I don’t know where,
I don’t know why,
And I don’t care,
Just let me out of here.
Yet we continue to try.
